The fitters fault then.
Any ID number for him on the meter. Will be on a small sticker on the side.

Yep, he copied the number down wrong, it has a bar code next to the number which I thought would be used by the meter reader when reading the meter maybe.
The thing is I always put my meter readings in online so I don't know if the utility company can read the meter or not, never had a bill from an actual reading from the company .

Not been read by the company since it was fitted?

I don't know because all my bills have been from my own readings that I input online, they may have read it but never had a bill from them reading it but I suppose if you keep your readings up to date they don't need to bill you from their readings?!

They're required to read them at least once every two years. Whether you supply a reading or not.

They come once a month for the electricity reading and I chase them  because the cupboard is full to the brim, I don't know if they have already read the gas or if it is even the same guy who reads both but he has never went round the side after I told him he was not getting in to read the electric.

Turn it round...some count backwards and some just give you free gas..
It may be someone had a stolen meter. ...forgot to change it back if your a new tenant owner..
Tampering with a gas meter is an offence..but lots do and there is a big market for hooky meters

They'd have scanned the barcode, which would have flagged the problem up.

They're not allowed to rely soley on your supplied readings, as they could be liable. As could you, for "supplying false readings", if their figure is higher.
