Yup, should show the route as a grey line (Bread crumb trail)
aha i have to zoom out for that, so i presume i just try to keep on the line?

Indeed.
Press start and follow the line. It will beep to let you know you are off route and make another line showing where you are going.
Going to give it a small test tomorrow.
I am messing about with it at the moment. I want to get rid of the stop watch but i dont think it will let me.
Still have the timer for rides as well so happy at the moment.
Thanks for all your help.
The way I do it is to import the tcx file in to Training Centre (Courses Tab), then send to device. Its a bit slow but iirc a activities tab comes up and you just say OK to that, then you have a tab thats split in two with all your courses on the left and the courses on the Edge on the right and you transfer back and forward then click OK and after a bit of processing its done.Ive created a rote in ride with gps, do i have to import this to the garmin site, then try to load it to the device?

I got an 800 for Christmas but I'm still using my old 305, I think the 205/305's are much better looking units and as long as you don't stray off the path or in a town/city is easier to followI have it so i got a tcx file in my docs for future use, and in the garmin TC
I got the 205 from ebay and never realised just how powerful and good it is.
this ^^ I have the Garmin Edge 200.yes because when you press start it still records the ride.
With the 305 you plot the route in Connect, give it a title and click on "export to device".
I'll have to experiment. Last weekend was the first time I ever used the navigation function. Once I found out how to zoom into the trail I found it pretty user friendly.as with the 205, but i have been playing with ride with gps site.

If you are plotting a route on Garmin Connect that you don't know it is worth going over it with google earth because the route does not always follow roads you can cycle down, I have been caught out a couple of time, the worst way up in the Peaks which resulted in me carrying the bike for 2 miles.
With the breadcrumb trail it can be hard to pick up you route again when you have to detour.
