As they all say - just enjoy yourself. You often don’t really notice yourself getting faster or going further, and then one day in a couple of months you’ll be cycling along, thinking “....oh look, there’s the place where I used to stop and turn back” or “... I remember when I used to think this was a big hill...."

Many years ago, when I was in my early 20s, and held an unerring belief that there would never come a time, when I would make a statement with the words 'many years ago' in it...... I trained with weights, running, and I Cycled to work. I was in an occupation that required some 'fitness', that Hill was nothing to me, a mere bagatelle, grist to my mill!

Im frankly gobsmacked that at 60 years old, on a single speed and carrying still a stone more than i need, I got up it with only one stop.

I used the word 'hill' with a little licence too. This is Essex after all. Anything 'slopey' is a hill here........

Top effort my friend.

Would definitely agree with most of the advice that has been given. Keep it enjoyable, by keeping the distances and the goals achieveable for the level you are at at any given time. If it starts to become a chore, by becoming a prisoner of longer distances than you might be ready for, that is when you'll start questioning what you're doing.

I think you are making a fantastic effort, and your enthusiasm is obvious. Keep up the great work, your fitness and your enjoyment of cycling will lead to greater distances.........but don't be a slave to it.

Well done!
