FNRttC Friday Night Ride to the Coast - 16th May 2014, York to Hull

@middleagecyclist Have you got your route for the ride back sorted out? If I don't ride with you and AN Others- as I'm going back to Tollerton I've got another ten or eleven to do after York, so I'll probably go earlier- it would certainly be handy to compare with the one I used last year.
Similar to last years but with a different (?nicer) depart from Hull and a crossing of the Millennium Bridge and some cycle paths alongside the Ouse in York.

Just another thought on those travelling back to Leeds by train. Some of the early trains from Hull to Leeds get rather busy & can be full & standing at Brough & Selby, so getting on there with a bike could be difficult & this weekend its the rugby magic weekend at Manchester, those those not travelling to Wembley might be Manchester bound, making an already service, busier still. If you can get back to Selby there is a Northern service to Leeds which starts there, so shouldn't be an issue getting on that

As an Agent of the night, this ride really appeals. I am so looking forward to it now I know what is on the other side of The Wall.
Plus this gives me the perfect opportunity to persuade the Ole Man to plot out The Peter Greenaway Tour of 2015
See you at York!
Love you all as ever your loyal Agent H xxx

I will be riding towards Driffield @Dogtrousers but I won't be going that way. I'll be going further west through Beverley.
I have things to do on Saturday, not least of which will be catching a few hours sleep, so I'm likely to be turning round at Hull unsociably quickly and dashing off to Driff pronto - leaving just time to gulp down a couple of double espressos and maybe a pastry. So I'll probably do this solo.

All the same we should meet up. We may already have met, I don't know. I'm a tall chap who will - if all goes to plan - be riding a quite ancient grey Dawes (not all that unlike its owner) with brand new Marathon Plus tyres. I've promised to treat it to some new shoes as it's been feeling terribly neglected and unridden of late.

So it could be worth staying on a bit to walk round the city pretending to be the omega man?

Not a rugby man myself, but think the Hull game at Manchester kicks off at 5pm, so there will probably be rugby fans traveling at various times through the day
Getting on at Hull probably wont be a problem, its just the intermediate stations when it gets rather full. If they have any sense the trains will have additional coaches, but I wouldn't count on it

You'll recognise the 'lads & lasses ' by their bariatric girth ... which may reduce bike space

Apropos of nothing related to the ride, but posted here because it's local (ish)- those who were on LonJOG will remember our rather splendid elevenses stop on the day we started in York, Raine's in Helperby. No longer there, apparently they shut down early last year, premises converted to a house, and Mr and Mrs Raine have moved on to manage a 'glamping' site near Ripon. Shop's now moved to the nearby Golden Lion pub.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

Boo! Though I did wonder how they survived in the absence of daily parties of cyclists on their way north.

I should be in York for 22:15hrs and will be heading directly to Pizza Express on Museum Street (as per last yr) for some carb loading. If anyone wants to meet there pre Minster they are more than welcome to join me.
