I don't care about looks and for a few grams I don't mind also they have never caused me any problems so i shall continue to wear them!

A properly set up bike should never need them. When I was a lad the bike inspector used to come around and check the restricting screws on your gears and if they were adjusted so that there was any possibility of them smashing the chain into the spokes he used to ram your fingers into the gap and turn the pedals as fast as he could. Many a lad lost many a finger but they never went out with badly adjusted gears again. Well those that could still use a screwdriver that is. He was harsh, but fair.

don't worry if you don't kill me too soon I may grow a bit older but i doubt i will grow up at all so i can then be an old scallywag rapscallion or scamp what you like! :P
