Frame warranty?

Surley if you take it apart to replace bearings,etc, you then have to assemble it? I'm not being argumentative here, just would like to know if there's any real value in a lifetime warranty.Either way the point remains that a warranty only covers manufacturing defects, which are unlikley to manifest themselves 10 years down the line?. Has anyone on this site claimed on a lifetime warranty more than 3yrs after purchase and been sucsessful?

Good point. Lifetime probably doesn't mean Lifetime. I wouldn't think the company would accept a complaint after 20 years use.

I believe Giant offer a life time warranty on frames. I read on a forum that someone sent an old frame back under warranty I think it was a Giant SCR 3.0. They couldn't replace it with the same frame so replaced it with the equivalent value defy frame. That's pretty good customer service if you ask me

My Giant warranty states that bikes not serviced by an authorised dealer are not covered - I think!

Trek were very good for me in replacing my mountain bike frame. It did take contacting their head office though as they thought I'd crashed it when I hadn't. I was impressed with their customer service and level of dedication.

DOH! I still cling to the 1994 receipt for my GT Zaskar. The hand made in the USA frame was sold with lifetime warranty and I've been trying to break it ever since. I think my body is going to crack first

FWIW I've had three Focus frames replaced all under warranty, (different bikes I should add), but all after multiple tinkerings by my good self.​

Cervelo offer a life time warranty, don't know how good it is, on another forum there have been a couple guys who have had a good result.

I broke a Dewes Vantage touring frame last year, a little over two years after buying it and after changing many components and maintaining it myself. In fact they couldn't give me a like-for-like replacement so I got upgraded to a 2012 Horizon frame instead

Most reputable brands offer a reasonable warranty period on their frames, normally at least 10 years and often longer and have an after sales infrastructure that in my experience have normally been very fair when it comes to honouring warranty issues.

Trek replaced a friend's 3yr old madone frame when the bottom bracket assembly split.

Another friend had a similar result with specialized when his Roubaix developed a frame issue after several years.

Yes I know of someone who had 2 Frames go at the seat/top tube junction and had them replaced,I have also seen a otherwise perfect bike scrapped for the same reason so it makes me wonder about them at least as far as the last generation of design

Most of the time the frame warranty, regardless of the length of time, is not worth the paper it's printed on! Warranties are just a sales gimmick on bicycles.

Most companies will say that your frame suffered from fatigue, no coverage, I had that happen to me with a Scandium frame that only had around 8,000 miles on it and it was a year old when the headtube developed a crack. Also, especially with lifetime warranties, which also exclude fatigue, you won't have a warranty whatsoever due to the fatigue exclusion if that frame fails in 5, 10, 20, or 50 years.

The only consistent success stories I heard about frame warranty replacement come from Specialized; I have heard of some spotty success with Trek and Cannondale, and some of those claims were like pulling teeth.
