No idea if this has come up before, but £20 for a light waterproof jacket can't really be beaten - probably wouldn't take a whole day in the rain, but for commuting it's ideal. Windproof & breathable, only downside I've found is that the hood isn't detachable, but it has some reflective strips on it, pockets, some armpit vents for the terminally sweaty, and a little coat tail to cover your waistband while leaning forwards:

Worth checking your Aldi if you are passing on Sudays ride.

I bought 2 Merino pullovers, 2 pairs of bike grips, spoke reflectors(not sure if I'll use them) and some leg warmers for a grand total of £17.94. There was a couple of ladies medium winter shell jackets left for something like £7 but no great quantities Hebburn.
The Metro centre store had quite a bit but a more limited range of left over stocks yesterday. (+ a couple of bike stands down to £20)

The spoke reflectors are brill - I picked some up when Lidl last had them.

I'll probably put a few on the front in the hope that it cuts night time side swipe risk.

Come summer they get taken off?

Went into my local one today, did anyone purchase the 'Triathlon Suit' from a few weeks back? There was some dreg ends leftover and decided not to get the men's Large as its slightly too big (with no wrapper).

Personally I leave them on as they don't hurt and it's not like I race... but I do get lots of questions about them!

I have just washed my spoke reflectors today as they do tend to pick up muck and oil and this does reduce their brightness. Not sure how effective the really are when there are street lights, probably more useful in complete darkness.

I think things in general are pretty poor at reflecting in complete darkness  only kidding- know exactly what you mean!

Even on lit streets, they're very effective. If you have a spoke reflector per spoke, and are travelling at a reasonable speed, it looks like your whole wheel is lit up.

I saw a cyclist in front of me like this a few weeks ago and it took me a few seconds to realise that they were spoke reflectors, not some kind of lit up disc wheel!

Had a car drive right at me on a roundabout recently, after I shouted at him he stopped and said that he didn't see me as I was side on to him. Thats exactly why I fitted the spoke reflectors, to have side visibility in the dark. So not sure if he just wasn't paying attention or the spoke reflectors were too dirty to reflect much light.
