Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
 My approach as well - once you discover something good, especially if cheap, buy lots. For the bike industry will only go and improve/ruin it. And charge way more. Reason I buy most of my saddles as new/secondhand.

What was the branding by the way on that saddle of yours?
I bought one from Aldi that was a Selle Royal (with its forgettable model name replaced by a number like 5168). Recent Aldi sale saddles have been Wittkopp IIRC.

You did well. Many selle royal saddles are excellent no nonsense things. Will keep a look out. Some selle royal saddles betray their pedigree of course with that somewhat bonkers but safely ignored integrated light clip.

For men I think cut outs are unecessary. Just hype. Some look positively alarming to me. My favourite selle royal has no cut out and not even a depression, just a clever central bit which is softer. That saddle cost £15.
I trust you won't be buying their newer model which boasts about under saddle ventilation.

the saddles might be OK - seem to remember someone praising some cheapo saddles from Lidl or Aldi but can't remember which one.
And I'm still waiting for the twitterstorm, with suitable hashtag, about the scandalous lack of stuff to clothe men.

I find these Lidl Wittkop saddles really comfortable, but only the middle sized trekking one. They are now on two of my bikes.
Did try the mountain bike one, but didn't like it at all and returned it for the trekking one.

yes seem to remember I have heard good things and seem to recall that brand being sold be one of the reputable german outfits.

I tend to favour things about 140 to 145mm wide. I assume from your comment the MTB one is the narrower?

Yep, the City is widest, MTB is narrow, with the Trekking in the middle.
Not tried the City one, but i wouldn't want a saddle that wide.

Thanks smudge.

Have you done long rides on yours?

Well i dont do big miles these days, but i have been out for a good few hours using this saddle and its ok for me. This is on my hybrid that i converted to an Ebike. I also put the same saddle on my folder as i couldn't get on with the bouncy Selle Royal Xsenium gel saddle that was on there when i bought it.

thanks for the reply - yes "bouncy" is not a good idea - it's a very subtle calculation between firm and soft to get a saddle just right. I sometimes wonder (dream?) if the better more dedicated bike saddle researchers (as opposed to the gimmicky "why not" folk) have a series of standard arses to conduct their experiments with. Must say I generally have the idea that selle royal have something like mine locked away in the lab.

Selle Royal's masterpiece was a "lookin" from the turn of the century. Ever since they have been messing with it.

will be off to Lidl tomorrow,
