Sports Direct are still selling the Karrimore cycle trousers for £12.99 which are good value. (I bought a pair from a comment on this forum a few weeks back and are fine, only point is the back is not high)
If by trousers you mean these then yes I agree they are an excellent buy. Brilliant fit (for me) and fantastic price.

How does the fabric on the Karrimors compare to something like Ron Hill trackster/bikesters GuitarPete? I'm thinking of winter commutes in them.

Don't know, but they are about 1/2 the price and I find them comfy for rides up to 10 miles. Not been any further in them as it's warming up. They're the same price in store so you can always try them on. This review not that complimentary. But hey, try them.

The carbon can be layed up to allow the bars to flex in the right direction, or even allow just the very end of the drops to flex more (for example). Since one of carbon's natural properties is to absorb some 'buzz' anyway, it makes for a little more comfort, when compared to an alloy bar which is much less forgiving. Of course, a carbon bar could also be designed to be very unforgiving.
In my experience, carbon seatposts are very slightly more comfortable than alloy, but the difference isn't huge, it's something you start to notice after quite a few miles.
