Probably Tesco store specific (Watford Extra), but these generic chains were on for £1.25 each in the clearance section next to the bike stuff.

Seemed decent enough for the hack bikes, and there were 8 left at 3pm.

EDIT: They also had a box full of these basic light sets for £1.50. Not brilliant, see what I did there ;-), but good as backups I guess.

Love the chain description:
  • transparent blister package is good-looking

Bit of a newbie question but will this chain fit on my bike? I have an old Townsend Team Elite that could do with a replacement. It has 15 gears.

Also how easy is it to fit a chain. Is this something a newbie can do or is this better done by an expert.

Was £5 when i had a look but still a good price according to the reviews.

With regard to it being a clearance item is Tesco by any chance back-pedalling from its cycling stuff? A year or two ago I was surprised, and impressed by the cycling stuff in the London Surrey Quays large shop. But I was in there a week or so ago and they have stopped selling cycling stuff.

The description says 10-24 speed, so I think it should fit. Only £1.25, so worth a punt if any left.
It comes with a quick link, but you'll need a chain splitter to adjust the length to match your existing chain.
It's an easy job. Check the numerous youtube vids for guidance.

I personally suspect Tesco will eventually rundown their in-store cycle goods as they can't really compete with dedicated retailers like Halfords/Evans and other online retailers. I have noticed that online they appear to have partnered with a few companies to provide a wide range of goods.

Just back from Aldi, £160 worse off!

Exceptional quality in this offer - Merino and compression base layers, "performance jersey", "pro cycling jersey", winter gloves, also a luminous yellow jersey.

I normally nip in and spend a tenner or so, but this time came out with armfuls - 50% of which was for me, the other half for my son.

Only thing I wasn't so impressed with were the bibbed longs. Not overly happy with the material used on the outside of the legs, which I guess is windproof, but just felt a bit "plasticky"

Anyway, just thought I'd share some comments, extremely impressed this year. Definitely worth a look

Did that include £20 off with the £5 off £40 spend that was available in the 55p Mirror yesterday? I bought 2 with the intent of saving a tenner but they had little of interest in my local store. So have a spare voucher if anyone on here wants it?

The Townsend Team Elite is my hack bike.

I use it if I want to pop to the shops as I don't have to worry about it being nicked. That and if I want to ride a route not suitable for my road bike (eg gravel paths).

Everyone should have at least one hack bike.

Mine cost me a grand total of £10 when I bought it second hand off gumtree. Hence why a £1.25 chain replacement sounds ideal.

Wish I'd known about the Mirror voucher.

Like at least one other person here I didn't feel able to use the Daily Mail one.

Shimano 105 5700 STI levers £89.99 at CRC, use code SHIM to get this price, 2% Quidco also available.

And of course CRC has released the code 'Autum'n which gives £15 off a £99 spend or more.

So of course I just purchased some 105 shifters as an upgrade to my Tiagra. Total price £84.99 and a few ££ from Quidco too.

this should work, I bought a chain recently from Asda for a hack of a mates, works fine as long as you have the chain tool as mentioned above.
