I`ve just ordered the messenger bag and they are supposedly available in my local Halfords tomorrow . However when I previously ordered the Azore shorts online and my order was confirmed I rang the following morning to ensure they were in only to be told there was an error online and they were no longer available . So will wait and see if the messenger bag is in tomorrow, might be lucky this time.

I've just 'reserved' a messenger bag, a gadget bag and a saddle bag for collection in store tomorrow. I am sceptical of them actually being there for some reason however. I'll see tomorrow morning when I go to collect. Luckily it's in a store not far from me.

Only ever tried their reserve and collect service once, I won't be trying again 
I've tried that for both the altura night vision jacket and the shimano brake cable. The website shows availability at sites local to you, and then goes further and further away as you click through. I got it to the point of showing every store in southern England and there was no stock for either item. So I'm rather sceptical that these are high value bargains which only exist in a handful of stores and are designed to lure you in. Let's be honest, it's of a piece with the rest of their marketing strategy.

Yes - I've used the service recently when I needed to buy a new hub for the internals - it worked fine - best price available and very convenient/fast - I have several Halfords close to me - anyway a bike ride is always nice.
I ordered 4 of the drinks bottles at 79p each and a brake cable kit last weekend and it was all ready for collection within the hour- so yeah it seems to work.
I was gutted yesterday though to see the brake cable kit has dropped even lower
