@Milzy I don’t agree with the BSO comment. Yes it has basic Claris running gear but it’s got full internal routing cable which you don’t see on many bikes under £1.2k these day so makes for a very clean look. Compared to the lower entry 50 model it is reasonable and against other brands it’s competitive. I’d see it as a upgrade worthy frame unlike say a Carrera vanquish while half the price is no where near as good in terms of quality of finish (I own one).

I suppose It would be a good winter bike. You could easily source a better crankset and rear mech for not much money, then later upgrade the wheels. So not bad really.

I think the crankset makes the least difference tbh on a bike? The rear mech does the job and I'm not sure it's upgradable to 4700/5800?

Does have a separate battery pack?
Yes it does, it’s a square about the size and thickness of a power bank. Could quite easily fit into a top tube bag or be strapped on to the frame with the included Velcro straps.

It certainly helps to have bright lights on tow paths; pedestrians can be incredibly difficult to spot when the area is unlit.

But I hope this has a shaped beam
Bad enough being dazzled by oncoming lights on a wide road. Awful on a narrow tow path.

No shaped beam but it does have 4 modes, high, medium, low and a crazy high speed flash mode. I usually run it in medium and switch to low when going past someone or cover the beam with my hand as I run a backup light too.

In terms of runtime because the battery is relatively compact I get about 2hours out and then it charges the battery pack via a usb A charger that converts into the round connection for the battery. The socket has two lights, red for charging and green for fully charged.

Using these without safety releases on the front stays is not sensible.
