I once had a ride leader ask me to fix someones snapped chain I removed a link and rejoined the chain using a chain tool and the existing rivet he said "Oh now I know how to use one of those" I thought yeh right good luck with that one lol.

well then don't buy the chain tool posted above at an attractive price.

Spend the money on some chocolates for a loved one. Or put it in the next charity box you see.

🤷‍♀️

I still use the chain tool to cut chains to length if needed but all my recent chains have come with quick links for years now.

a good little chain breaker/maker . . . . if you need to push a pin back in.
Good as a breaker; good enough as a 'pusher-inner' IF . . .
I find quick links easier to use.
So do I and do so exclusively.

Same here. Good chat @cougie uk Do you carry one of each (chain tool and quick link) in your 'in case' bag?

Looks like the forever bargains of Planet X are gone. New website today and sensible pricing by the looks of it. Can get a London road or Kaffenback for £700-£800.

I do! Along with a few zip ties. Mates bottle cage broke a few weeks ago but a zip tie around it and the frame held it on.
Did a sportive with him this week. He's still using the zip tie fix!

Much rather carry a few spare bits than need rescuing from the middle of nowhere.

Small roll of gorilla tape a good idea too!
