6 July 2007, part of the exodus from C+, and still inflicting myself on the place even though I'm no longer a cyclist.

Forums in general are a lot quieter than they used to be, thanks to places like Facebook I should think.

Obviously an Aubergine
It's all very mundane - and the story behind it is slightly sad. I joined in 2010 ish - soon became good friends with the late Vernon. We met a few times in London and Leeds for some very liquid lunches (with @Hill Wimp). Sadly Vern died and I lost my enthusiasm. I drifted off around the time of the great flounce (having also been trolled by a rather nasty chap from the SW). But there are many here who I missed so I came back.

How to leave? Ask Phil to close your account. How to come back? Phil again has been very accommodating.

Awww I see - where worlds collide - sorry you lost a good friend - that's really hard.

I have to say i've had variable results with meeting people in the real 3D world - after first having encountered them on t'internet .

Sometimes it has been a source of great delight - other times less so .

On the whole, i tend to keep things separate mostly these days - but its not a hard and fast rule by any means - and I've got much pleasure ( and help) even just from being 'mates' with people in the virtual world

Let me know where this unpleasant southwesterly cove resides - and i'll go and have a word - with my most stentorian hat on ...

Scarey thought huh ???

Hmmm, Pebbles comes to mind.

I just keep thinking of this fella ...

There are always stories behind these forum things.
As you see many of us came here after debacles on other forums. July 2007 the C+ forum implosion led a huge number of us long-termers coming here brought a certain kinship. Then the yacf ACF smiley debacle. Then there's the fact that many of us know each other through The Fridays rides and others, The London Brompton Club, Audax UK, Vernon's pie rides, the CC Jersey (who has that?).
People have drifted in and out, some flounce, a few have died. Friends have been made, best-friends found, some met here got married and moved-on, others found new partners. @potsy is still here and nobody knows if he even has a bike ;-) Oh, and there's a lot of irreverence and good humour.
There is a huge amount of empathy and support for those in distress, some members have used others in their professional capacities offline. Some might have even eaten or used products that others have made or grown!
We often focus on the few negatives rather than the wonderful diversity and the good people here :-0
