Football World Cup - Russia 2018

The favourites have all been rather uninspiring so far. Some have been lucky with it (France) others less lucky (Germany).

Some serious sock-pulling-up needs to be done.

If things continue the way they are, wouldn't surprise me if one of the "lesser" teams won this tournament.

Russia will win.

The 'lesser' teams have been shite !!..........Saudi, Iran, Morocco, Nigeria and they still keep coming

Hey, that's not "lesser", those are the scrapings at the bottom of the barrel...

I'm thinking teams outside of the usual suspects of Germany, France, Brazil, Spain and Argentina...

Of course, the other tournament winners of recent years, Italy, aren't here, and the last team outside of those six who have won the tournament are...

Yeah, England. But I ain't holding my breath LOL.

I was looking forward to watching this evening's game, but I've just been blinded by Ian Wright's shirt.
I liked his shirt, but then i do like bright clothing. Maybe 'Wrighty' is a bit too hefty now to get away with such things though?:giggle:

Don't they mollycoddle 'em! "He's played 40 odd games in a season blah blah",i heard the commentator say. I remember Ronnie Clayton(Blackburn Rovers and England) telling me that after he'd got back from playing in the 1962 World Cup,he had to go home and get up for work in t'pit the following day!:headshake:
Apart from him not playing in the 1962 WC (he played 1 game in the 1958 WC and played his last international match in 1960) and him not working in t'pit (he worked in his family's newsagents), that's a great story.

Yeah,i meant Bryan Douglas not his friend Ronnie Clayton!

Bryan Douglas (born 27 May 1934) is an English former footballer.

During his career, he played for Blackburn Rovers from 1954 to 1969, totalling 438 league appearances and 100 goals. He also earned 36 caps and scored 11 goals for England. He appeared in two World Cups, in 1958 and 1962, appearing in all of England's matches in the two tournaments.

What does his size have to do with anything? That shirt was rank.

Been an interesting start to the tournament so far. A couple of cracking games and some brilliant goals. All seems neatly poised.

Cue England hammering Tunisia and a media frenzy.

Some colours and patterns are better on slimmer people, some colours and patterns are better on not so slim people. For example hoops (not stripes) exaggerate width. Black supposedly hides width. His shirt would've been better maybe if it hadn't had those contrasting bits in,which made it look a bit like a pyjama top. On about shirts,i noticed that Cesc Fabregas seemed to have the same shirt on two days in a row. He wore it on Friday then on Saturday. I noticed because it had a noticeable emblem on the almost equally noticeable epaulettes. Alan Shearer used to wear some odd shirts, but he seems to have toned it down a little over the last few years.
You must feel a bit Isolated up there with not taking part in the World Cup,especially with it taking place in a European country. Scotland's participation in World Cups seem such a distant memory, wouldn't you say?

Thanks for the lesson in colour and pattern theory. You're talking bollocks, but never mind.

As for memories of Scotland, they may be distant but still clear. Particularly the ball bouncing off Tom Boyd's arse to give Brazil the win when we'd been looking good for a draw.
