How does cricket stand in the media attention to spectator numbers rating ?

Good one. I had thought about horse racing but wasn't sure about the number of people betting on it, but cricket must be right up there in the high-coverage, low-interest stakes.

If football ever lost popularity, what on earth would 98% of men have to talk about?
;)
I find football seldom comes up in conversation nowadays, it's just the media that tries to keep it in the spotlight.

It's probably the other way around thanks to all the cricket being on Sky. During the summer there's no end of games going on down this way. I know a couple of lads that play and an umpire (who does up to minor league) and they say that participation has actually gone up in spite of the coverage being on Sky.

Football can be cack at times but I'm certain everyone has that one game that keeps them coming back for more. Mine was the most memorable game of football ever played I think and the fact I was there with my son in Istanbul on that incredible night can bring a smile to my face, and probably always will, no matter what other shite's happening in my life.

I lost interest in football about five years ago. Partly because of the sheer shame at the amount of money being poured into 'my' club (Chelsea) but mainly because I lost touch with my football loving male friends and I wasn't actually all that interested in the game itself.

That second bit has only just occurred to me. ;)

There may be some truth in that. I discovered there were other pleasures in life besides watching Chelsea. ;)

You'd love it again if you watched a proper team, none of this fantasy football stuff.

Nah. I'd been a Chelsea fan since I was 8, but my real fandom only lasted while I was mates with two blokes who I met at college. Not in touch with either of them now. When Ranieri got the push I finally gave up. The whole Chelski thing was just embarrassing.

Oh and I don't like watching football live. I went to a few matches with my dad (coem on you Cherries!) and I left having no idea what the score was or what I'd actually seen. Being in the middle of a braying crowd of blokes wasn't my idea of a good time.

Hmmmm ... loyal though, that's good. ;)
Only reason I have got so interested in it, because of my best mate who wont stop talking about it. No longer in contact with him, but talk more about it now.

It's like most hobbies. It's always easier if you can share it with people. Otherwise it can get a bit dull and pointless.
