Big_Dave

The unlikely Cyclist
I was wondering if the users of the Beginners section of cycle chat would like to follow each others progress on Strava, I don't have any friends that cycling so would be great to follow some of you guys (& gals)

My Strava link >>http://www.strava.com/athletes/bigdave<<

Yes there is, but without knowing there cc usernames you don't know who most of them are:thumbsup:
you will find quite a few of us use the same avatar so you can usually work it out from that, plus from looking at the newbie progress and my ride today where people often add in a link to their ride...

also as a tip on strava, don't set the centre of the privacy zone to be your actual house or post code - off set it a touch... otherwise it is really obvious where you live/work still...

Am I weird in not caring whether anyone can see where I live??? Lol.
The problem is that unscrupulous people can see where you park your nice, maybe very valuable bike. IIRC similar sites may have been used to do just that. >

i don't follow normally, so not sure if i'm clicking the correct bits on strava
Do i have to click to follow each one separately, or will it develop similar to the strava cyclechat club?

I usually start my rides at the end of the track on the main road, and the house can nor be seen from the main road.
@Big_Dave what I did was to follow those in my area with a similar performance about 18 months ago and set the table to show those I follow as default, there is a plug in type thing for either chrome or oprea that will set yours as default, but its a bit complex.

I've been using CycleDroid until yesterday. Tried Strava on a 50km spin yesterday. I can see it recorded the ride on my phone but I can't access it. I know I live in the back of beyond and 'broadband' is still to become an entry in the local dictionary but can someone tell me how I can access my ride? When I tap on it, my phone, a Galaxy SIII, goes into permanent Strava sync mode but I don't understand why. What is it trying to sync with? Are the rides filed in that heavenly place, 'The Cloud'? Does it only work if you have 3 or 4 G's whatever they might be?

I've never had to attend a computer course in my life. I'm totally self-taught and depend heavily on computers in my day-to-day business. BUT I didn't sleep for a month when Microsoft announced they were no longer going support Windows XP. Windows 8 has made me feel old and I confront Apps with a similar awkwardness. Is Strava sprung from the same clever loins?
