+1 for the Joe Blow. I have used the LBS's one a few times and as you say, effortless. Pity I have to make do with my Aldi one!
my aldi one fractured at base of barrel and cheap tesco one only grips if long valves not shorter ones .

just ordered via Amazon ^_^

I've got a Revolution one too, cracking pump and I've not had any problems so far.

I've got one as well. Metal bodied pump for less than a tenner. The head fits both types of valve without adjustment. You do need a bit of valve showing though on Presta, or it wont grip.

Indeed, the Joe Blow Sport model is a great pump.
Resurrecting an old topic .........
taking up cycling last December I purchased a Halfords floor pump, and since then an Aldi floor pump - same issues with both, difficulty in fitting and releasing the pump to the Presta valve, above 80 - 90 psi the gauges did not register any pressure increase, the difficulty in fitting/releasing the pump to the valve resulted in inner tube wear at the valve/inner tube interface and resulting "puncture" and need for new inner tube.

Following the the recommendations of this topic I took advantage of the current Halford 3 for 2 offer on bike accessories and bought a Joe Blow II Sport, certainly a more substantial pump which on first use appears to, unlike my other purchases, do exactly as the packaging claims.

Thanks to all previous contributors to this topic.... +1 for the Joe Blow II Sport
