flip flops for cycling

Find this very comfortable but nobody seems to do it. I imagine if you come off there is no protection. They are quite tight fitting around the toe so dont think the flip flops would slip off easily. Any reason not to do this? Had a bit of athletes foot and the wind between the toes is perfect to keep that at bay.

I wear Birkenstocks in the summer despite one of my colleagues tutting. One of the joys of cycling!

I love cycling in sandals but it's not worth buying a pair of cleated cycling sandals when the average UK summer only warms up enough for about a week's riding every year. I did once have a bizarre accident involving sandals and a low obstacle in the cyclepath I was on. It resulted in a lost big toenail (I looked all over to see whether I could find it) and a lot of blood. The nurse at the GP's really didn't want to look at it, so much so that she didn't.

Did you know that Jesus cycled from Bethlehem to Mecca with heel clips attached to the back of his sandals?
I am sure that on his second coming he will be clipless although some will push the flip flop heresy.

Think he's more likely to go around upturning people's pedals for wearing cleats, etc, if 'history's' anything to go by...
