Thanks for the advice yeah I currently use my phone when I am out but not moving on the trainer means I have no way of seeing what I am doing.

Not wanting to spend silly money just basic distance and speed is all I need so I can keep a track of my progress in terms of distance. I know that translated on the open road there is no way I would be able to keep up the distance a speed but I hope that my fitNess levels will improve enough to push the distance out on the open road.
Halfords due a basic wired computer for £6 which will give you basuic speed and distance . I got a cateye wireless computer as a back up to mobile on both bikes . I keep mobile in pocket but can see time and distance on head unit . Can someone get you one for xmas

If you have an Aldi near you, they might have some of their basic bike computers left from the last promotion.
I've seen them as cheap as £2.99 to clear, but prices seem to vary a fair bit between stores - I think the mark downs are at the managers discretion.

Only twenty miles this morning. Fourth group ride in a row to be cut short or postponed (only one). It's rideable but took too much concentration to go further today and conditions were deteriorating rapidly.

Yeah I think I only saw two brave soles on the road today both of them seemed to be struggling with the wind.

Oh well I put 20 mins on the bike inside just to get a feel of how it runs and how it feels when increasing power. Just going to work on a plan of action wake up 30 mins earlier during the week and then a couple of hours on top over the weekend should help.

If all else fails I have been lent a Cyclops Magneto trainer which is sat in the bed room just beging to have the bike bolted on. So that may be the plan this morning couple of hours on the roller.

Just need to go get a cycle computer to track distance and speed.
My turbo session on Thursday night was only a theoretical 10 miles (14mph) but I put out 234w over the 42minutes and I seemed to have better speed during my real 50 miles ride today compared to my mates. On my old turbo I'd have done 24 theoretical miles in the same time for the same effort. The time and power (if you have the latter) are much more accurate than theoretical speed and distance that are dependant to a large degree on your turbo and its resistance settings :okay:

Rode into work this morning in strong winds.. Nearly got blown over twice. Actually ended up riding onto the verge once.
Ride Home cancelled by several of my colleagues who threatened to let my tyres down if I didn't accept a lift home.. Probably the right choice!

Wise choice sounded wild out there, I think around 4pm it was 63mph :okay:

I'll go out in the wind unless it's so strong I can't hold my line on the road, then it becomes dangerous IMHO. It always feels hard to begin with but it gets easier as you become accustomed to it. Struggle out then get blown home is the way to go...
