Wow. Wind's not dangerous until stuff's falling off buildings and trees, or you can't hold your line, is it?

One poor chap had some pretty high-profile carbon wheels, looked like at least 60mm to me. He was standing by the side of the road, no obvious signs of damage or distress (I asked) but I really wouldn't have wanted to have been on the road with those. I was using ENVE 3.4's and it wasn't too scary (which rather surprised me) but some of the headwind cycling was really exhausting.

I found the tricky bits were when you got sudden wind shadow or funnels coming from the side. It can really tug at the wheel (or that's how it feels), reminds me of heavy torque steer when you accelerate in a fast front-wheel drive car. If the roads had been in any way busy with cars I'd have been more worried.

It's getting on my wick now this wind. It's been bad where i live over a month now and I've gone down from riding 5 times a week to one or two. I can ride in it but the enjoyment is massively reduced

Yeah the problem I have is a) being a novice and b) even though I live out in the countryside most of the roads are used alot by all sorts of traffic. I am sure give it a few months of real cycling without bad weather etc my confidence should be higher.

Looking out the window this morning it seems to be a no go again the tree out side is moving worse than last weekend which is a shame.

Yeah same here I really have the cycling bug but the weather just seems to be hindering any advancement in my goal of losing weight and getting fitter.

You can lose weight and get fitter without cycling

How about going for a walk or a swim? You could even try that running thing, although don't expect to enjoy it, never seen a happy jogger myself

If the forecast is to be believed, it looks less blowy for the SE tomorrow, so plan a big ride for then

Yeah your right about other forms of exercise. The running is a no go as I injured my knee badly playing rugby years ago and any additional strain on them can cause servere swelling and pain.

The cycling helps alot as there is limited pressure on my knees plus my legs are in line whilst putting power through the pedals.

I do tend to walk quite a bit at the weekends if I am going out to town the cheapskate in me parks near a freinds house and walk into town which is around 1/20mile away.

Swimming is a good option I am not great at it but I may just have a look at the local leisure centre for pricing etc.

If all else fails I have been lent a Cyclops Magneto trainer which is sat in the bed room just beging to have the bike bolted on. So that may be the plan this morning couple of hours on the roller.

Just need to go get a cycle computer to track distance and speed.

Distance is easy, on a TT, you don't go anywhere ;)

Just pedal hard for an hour and you'll get sweatier than you ever would out on the road. Good luck enjoying 2 hours zzzzzzz

Make sure you wipe the bike down really well afterwards to get rid of corrosive sweat

I presume you mean cycle computer on the turbo . put magnet on rear wheel none drive side and make sure sender and head unit are near enough if wireless

Thanks for the advice yeah I currently use my phone when I am out but not moving on the trainer means I have no way of seeing what I am doing.

Not wanting to spend silly money just basic distance and speed is all I need so I can keep a track of my progress in terms of distance. I know that translated on the open road there is no way I would be able to keep up the distance a speed but I hope that my fitNess levels will improve enough to push the distance out on the open road.

Plan is to put a dvd on and just keep pedalling all the way through lol.

Yeah I have an old bar towl that will be put over the top of the bike to combat a bit of the sweat the rest will be cleaned off immediately.
