Wow that was a little hair rasing. Set off with good intentions of a nice 20mile ride all kitted up nice and warm hit my first hill coming out of the village and decided to take a minute to compose myself and on I jumped got all the way up without stopping which felt great and painful all at the same time.

No sooner had I caught my breath I was on a stretch of road with a head wind which then changed to a side wind and then to a tail wind all in 10 meters needless to say that as soon as the rain started I made the decision to cycle to the next village do a little loop and head back.

7 miles is better then 0 miles but I really didn't enjoy been pushed from one side of the road to the other with the wind.

Good for getting out - cycling in the wind at this time of year is great training for the summer months.

I try to get out at least once a week just to get some exercise and to switch off. Last week I was out of action as I had a stinking cold and chest felt tight even before I exercised.

The rain doest bother me but add the wind I to the mix I just felt a full blown run out would be a little risky.

Credit for getting out . I been for an hour today brutal sidewind shoulders ache from fighting the bike Just stay safe . Just because you want to get out sometimes it's safer not to go . Today was a borderline day for me kept dithering but went . Any windier than today In would not ride .Tailwinds great ,headwind hard work sidewind dangerous .

Your right I think the wind today was probably a littl too much but that's the novice in me know I now what to expect I can now make the decision on whether or not to go out in future.

The more you ride you slowly become a weather export and get to understand wind direction and plan rides accordingly . I've only been riding 18 mths and still consider myself a newbie on days like today enthusiasm overrides the head .

Well done getting out there. I did 11 miles in the wind yesterday and my shoulders were still aching from holding the bike steady, an hour after the ride. Forecast says the wind is going to drop in about 5 hours from now, so another night ride for me today.

7 miles definitely better than none.

Welcome to Britain in the winter.

Riding over that, when it's blowing a hooley, is errrrrrr, interesting.

36 miles today. Last ten into the wind were a swine. I changed my route to hide behind hills and hedges as much as possible.

You know it's windy when you're sat still on the bike and the blasted wind is blowing you backwards, skidding the tyres after you tried to use the brakes to stop it!

Winter indeed. Yesterday was a double first for me, first sportive and first really windy day. I think you're right RR, "interesting" was the right word. Grim but fun would be another way to describe it.
