Oh and flapjack
who is this organised by? I want to enter rides where they do chipped timing?
Bit of a trek for me. Looked on there website but there are no events in or that near to my area in colchester essex. I really would like to do a timed event soon though.
#So breaking my Sportive virginity on Saturday at the New Forest event, doing the shorter of the two routes (60 miles). Doing it on my own, rather than in a club or with friends.
Got booked into a hotel, though judging by reviews its a bit of a hole, but its either that or Southampton which is too far for a 6am start...
Any tips, things people have found to be good pointers on their rides?

My I ask how you found out about it? how long you have been riding? and how fast do you ride etc, Id love to do one but think im to slow

I was hunting around online for some organised events to take part in as build up to the RideLondon 100 mile closed road race in August I am doing for charity. Initially was looking at Audux's but saw this organised by Wiggle and thought it suited my needs. Its a decent distance, has beautiful scenery that is new to me, may meet some interesting people on the day and its just a good excuse to get out and ride with others.
I suppose apart from the distance its the idea I will be riding with a lot of other people that appealed, in August I will be 1 of 20,000 riders, and I need to get used to having lots of cyclists riding around the same circuit as me.
As Rob said above, Sportives are not technically races - they don't post results in finishing order, though you do get a timing chip for your personal achievement. I don't know how far cyclists take this as real, I'm sure many out there will race, but your not supposed to - its not a closed road race, so lights and other road users still need to be respected.
I can sit on about 16 mph on flats ok, but really over a distance I'm more comfortable around 13.5 mph or so, that's my natural average speed right now, with ascents taken into account.
Ive been riding since August last year, though only got riding properly since late November. Im not in any event to prove my manhood, or to boost ego. I'm in it for fitness, to do something Ive found later in life I really enjoy, and will have fun doing it. Hell, I plan to stop and take a few photos en route!

How did you get on???? I finished in 3:15 according to my garmin. Stopped for a bit at the second feed station while my mate stretched his back.
The flapjack was good, the wind wasn't.
