Thirty pounds of bargain by the look.
Personally I wouldn't have the bars rotated so far up, but then I suspect I'm not the same shape or size as you.
Given the general griminess of it, I think you might be shelling out on a new chain (and possibly cassette) in the not too distant future.
Enjoy!

I bought one of those about 10 years ago, when 15 miles was a long distance for me. A decade later, it's still going strong, and has done squillions of miles. OK, the only original bits now are the frame and the handlebars, and it's now relegated to 'winter bike', but I have no complaints... it's been great, and has '. introduced to to a whole new world of cycling. 15 miles is now 'getting warmed up' :okay:
Hope you enjoy riding it.

Looks like a really good bargain! :bicycle: Have you got any recent photos, assuming you have cleaned it all up that is!?

Looks good, as @Tim Hall said, it really could do with a good clean, pay lots of attention to the cogs front and back, I'd also check the brake blocks front and back, make sure they are not too worn.

If you aren't sure, it might be worth dropping into your local bike shop (LBS) and asking them to give it a quick service and once over. A basic service is about £40, and they'll make sure the brakes and gears are all setup and properly working for you. They might also help you get it setup so that it's more comfortable for you to ride. Everyone sets their bike up slightly differently.

So quick update. Getting its first full deep clean first chance I've had between work but have been cycling it every day to work so all good

Once clean get my new selle italia saddle fitted and got new red bar tape for it but think I will wait and buy new bars first

As tim mentioned, those bars look to be rotated up at a fairly horrible angle, you may find it more comfortable to rotate them down.

That.. is not a deep clean.

For a starters...

Rear wheel off
Tyres off.
Cassette off, cleaned.
Axles/QR's cleaned
Wheel bearings cleaned and greased
chain off, cleaned and lubed
Cranckset off, taken apart and cleaned
Bottom Bracket taken out cleaned and greased
RD jockey wheels taken off, cleaned and greased
Brakes off and clean and lube
Drop front forks, clean and grease headset.

Now that is the start of a deep clean in my book :okay:

£30 ?
Jammy git
them handlebars do look like how my mates used to set theirs back in the late 70's early 80's, if they weren't fitting cowhorns

my giant was £700 with £300 knocked off, all you need now is a white saddle and bar tape
