Similar thing happened to me just over a year ago. Was about 2 minutes from home after 30 miles when a boot flew at me from the other direction. Must have been doing close to 30mph going down hill and I ducked to avoid it. It didn't hit me but I nearly came off. I was fuming so I turned around and although I couldn't see the car, thought I might catch it at the traffic lights up the road. No luck so I rode back down the road to the boot and waited to see if anyone came back for it. Good job they didn't as I was well up for it. Not usually like that but I was so angry.

Then, a week later, some git in a Transit van went past me and did his window squirters on me. Cor, I ask you, folk today.

Is it worth getting the license number and reporting the incident? I'm sure the police would pay them a visit and give them a warning, if they're youngsters might just make them think a bit?

Throwing an object from a car is a serious matter, certainly assault and I wonder if you could argue attempted murder? If you can get the reg, report it to your local Police. If the make and colour and reg correspond they will tag that car and next time it is seen by a Police car equipped with ANPR the driver will be stopped for a "producer" and a chat. If more than three reports are received the Police will go round for a chat and the car could even be confiscated. All kind of traffic offences can be included in this scheme, which most Police forces are encouraging citizens to use. Find out the local Police non-emergency number and put it on your mobile. In Lancashire it's 0845 1 25 35 45 and Greater Manchester is 0161 872 5050.

We have dealt successfully with three habitual speeders in our street by using this system, the Police are happy to take your report.

There was an episode of 'Mythbusters' where they tested a few myths about objects being thrown from moving vehicles, it was pretty alarming to see that under the right circumstances a paper cup of milkshake could breech a car windscreen. Um, don't have nightmares...

A pedestrian here in Manchester lost an eye when she was hit by an egg thrown from a passing car.

These things never happen when you ride in the countryside.

Unfortunately these cretins also drive in the countryside too,I had Vauxhall Corsa drive towards me at speed
whilst on the road between Denshaw and Scammonden,Heard him coming long before I saw him
(the sceerching of tyres as went round the corners ahead of me gave him away) what i didn't expect
was for him to cross across the road open his door to try and take me out,got his number and duly reported him.
The local Police were very interested in him for some reason, reading some comments on motoring on the
Manchester Evening News a couple of days later someone else was driven at by a similar coloured Corsa in
Oldham (A coincidence?? I think not)
