I do most of my long rides (over 110 miles) on a (admittedly slightly modified) piece of crap, cheapo trekker. 11-32 8 speed rear cassette, triple up front (no idea on the teeth I haven't counted but I keep it on the big ring). It does the job, and I don't care if it gets squished by a truck, or stolen. To be fair, considering it only cost 260 quid, it's doing extremely well.
