Okay so, following the advice on here I've bought a T3. Took it for a ride around Decathlon and its carpark and found it surprisingly easy to ride, considering it's been a long time since I was on a bike and never used road tyres before.

White, not red unfortunately. Red came in 63 only and was too big so a white 60 was the only choice. Won't be able to get on it today which is a shame. But tomorrow morning I'll be up and taking it for a spin. Can't believe I'm actually excited. It's like being twelve all over again.

But the more i got into it i wanted better wheels so had some wheels handbuilt by harry rowland for £250 and not had a single problem with them. Open pro rims and 105 hubs with sapim strong spokes, so far 500 miles and still run beautifully.

Just got a quote and the best he could offer me, strength wise, was the exact same set that you're using. The only problem is he couldn't offer me any warranty due to my weight. Hopefully if I do get a set like this I'll have no issues. And hopefully I'll be shedding some of that weight pretty quickly.

I wouldn't worry too much, according the the book the bicycle wheel a good 36 spoke road wheel will support 400kg.

Impact loads will affect this but still won't be a problem, go for double butted or swaged spokes as they are less likely to break.

i hit a big pot hole whilst sprinting tonight that split the sidewall of the tyre, but the wheels still perfectly true

Okay so a quick update..

First ride complete. No problems. 5.3km in about 26 minutes. Took a wrong turn and ended up going the same short steepish hill twice, but other than that I really enjoyed it.

Excellent. Try to increase the distance, every week a little more and in a few months you will be doing some pretty good distances.

Thanks. I think next time I'll do the same in reverse. I think a longer but more gradual gradient would be more beneficial than the short sharp one.

Now to put everything else into place. Stopping smoking shouldn't be a problem. I've only ever been a social smoker, which then goes hand in hand with the alcohol. I think staying away from the pub might be my best bet altogether. Cutting that out and I'll be able to afford that wheelset no problems.

Get a decent mountain bike and put slick tyres on it.
