Glad you enjoyed it @Mazz , I had left it too late to sign up as I was watched the forecast as I have become a fair weather cyclist these days ,even if I had registered I might not have rode it due to the weather

I heard the organiser mention that not everyone had turned up, for whatever reason.
Maybe a few just looked out the window in the morning and neshed it.

Looks like there were 85 finishers from 120/125 entries: https://www.audax.uk/results?searchId=Event&evId=24-40

Hopefully no DNFs but, given the weather first thing, I wasn't surprised that there were a fair number of DNSs.

Well I made it you round in about 8hrs. I’ve decided Dean made a cruel route choice for don’t keep to the roads 100k and that sort of distance isn’t for me as I was bored after about 35-40 miles.

@bikingdad90 - you've had a go and that's the important bit. I did the 200, which had a really cold start.

My thanks to the organiser for a route that was fairly interesting (except the gravel/sticks/puddles/poo bit) and safe.

Are there any grumpy YouTube audaxers? I think that’d be quite the contrast 😁

That's me on the Specialized Allez she overtook at @2:30 ^_^
I rode with her on her first audax - the Llanfair 400 a few years ago.

Possibly; "I rode a bike and it was terrible" type thing. There's probably an audience out there for that type of video.

And look forward to riding in company with pogonophyllic others; between you route adherence assurance will be strong.
Not only is that a new word to me, it is also unknown to my usually reliable Chambers crossword dictionary app! That did at least explain what pogonomoty means though.

I don't know if he ever made it onto YouTube, but one particular audaxer that I met certainly was grumpy!

I was doing one of my first 200s when I got chatting to another rider (who did have a big bushy beard!). I said that I was finding the combination of hills and distance a bit tiring. He had a very pained look on his face. Eventually, he spoke, and what do you think he said...?
  • "Never mind mate - everybody finds the first few tough. I felt the same way on mine. Just pace yourself and you will be fine."
  • "Yeah, these Yorkshire climbs are hard work, aren't they! Still, 1,500 metres of ascent done, only 1,500 more to go!"
  • OR... "Poxy 200s - why do I bother!! Well, I'll tell you why - this is for my first SR series this year. They should bloody well make them 300 + 400 + 500 + 600. Where is the challenge in a 200 with only 3,000 m of ascent!!"
I stopped pedalling and coasted along until he had ridden off into the distance, still chuntering to himself!

I was with her when she rode her first 400km. And when I put "with" that means myself, and two others, hanging onto her wheel as she dashed the first 80km. Since then she's done really well and you'll see her on many events.

To be fair, she’s much younger than we are. You’d expect young adults on average to do better than middle aged better than old aged.
