It is 21-45 and i have just heard a few bangs as someone has decided to set a few bangers off.I think it's time fireworks were banned until Nov 1st.

I used to live in Easton, Bristol which has a large Hindu community. November was always fun, fireworks going off all the time due to Nov 5 and also near to Diwali. Bit like living in a fireworks factory on fire:okay:.

It’s not just the noise that turns out animals into wreaks for weeks that is bad. But finding the spent rockets and associated rubbish everywhere. One year we found a rocket had landed feet from the hay bales, if it had landed on them it could have been a problem!!

The sale is already restricted to two weeks before and they no longer start mid August. Lets not restrict them any further.

A friend's dog loved fireworks, but had to be kept on a strong lead else she'd have chased and grabbed them. She had to settle for barking at them from a distance straining at the leash

I'm sorry. Our dog didn't like fireworks either, but they give a lot of pleasure. If you live in an urban environment, you have to be tolerant of inconveniences.

You're right, but they've already been going off around here for a couple of weeks already and most of them seem to be about making as much noise as possible rather than a nice display of colour.
make it into a game, get the dog to associate the noise with fun. Dogs can get to love bangs etc, think of gun dogs, they associate gun fire with fantastic days out. If you start going on strange or get annoyed at fireworks then your dog will copy you.
We're trying playing recordings of firework noises to desensitise him and he seems fine with them - until a real firework goes off outside and that sets him off.
I think it's the percussive effect that upsets him.
He was on drugs strong enough to knock a dog 4 times his size out last year and they didn't touch him. The vet says it just works like that some times.

I'll try keeping a squeaky toy to hand over the next few days and see how we get on.

Mine associates it with jumping on top of me
