I'm back! Yippeee
Well after a couple of attempts (one where I took the wrong turn and shaved a few miles off and one with 2 punctures in one ride)
I have finally achieved my 30 mile badge which I will sow on my swimming trunks as soon as it arrives

Right 50km done next 50miles :wahhey:

I was very pleased with how well it went and I am amazed that I can stil walk after it.
ah the days of sewing badges on to speedos :bravo:

congratulation, it is a great feeling isn't it. Mapping it out looks positively frightening on a map.

I also managed my first 30 miler last Tuesday (though for me it is since the dog bite & +100 stitches last February) and for once it had nothing to do with getting lost again!. Managed 41 miles on Friday but that had a party part way through (grandfather was 90) but it was seriously difficult getting home again... legs were sore as anything on saturday (day 2 of party) and sunday...

Well done on doing 30 miles, as you say next step is 50 miles
Nothing like a new set of wheels, new bottom bracket and pedals to motivate you. When I had these done, I done 49.2 miles that day when my previous best was about 32. It was more like 3 seperate rides in a row as I had to stop to have the work done then come back home for food and then go back out for a bit.

I find 30 miles to be my tipping point as a beginner, less than that I can manage on a 'normal' ride and more than that seems a bit like an expedition still - but an Eddington number of 30 is my next goal (currently 26 but with only 16 over 30's so still plenty to do)

Well done on your achievement, very impressive. Im a bit jealous, iv wanted to try this the last few weekend but either been busy or due to adverse weather conditions i called it off (wimped out). Guess this weekend i should implement rule 5 and go for it.

I was going to do a 30 last Sunday, but ran out of time due to homework taking longer than I predicted (it has a knack of doing that, grr) so I ended up only doing a nice 20 mile loop I worked out. However, it's a neat loop, and I wouldn't have discovered it otherwise!
Well done on your 30

I hit on lucky it was a great day and I felt I could have gone further.

I looked at doing a charity ride and the thought of 33 miles was quite daunting now I think I might ride to and from the event

Well done... as most others have already said, once you have done 30 it will soon be 50 ....and then before you know it you will be planning to do your 100km.....then 100 miles........then....coast to coast......... (If my gammy shoulders improve coast to coast is my next target......but already (foolishly and perhaps unrealistically thinking about LEJOG!!!) So addictive this riding a bicycle thing.
