Come and See, Russian war film depicting the Nazi atrocities. Remarkably graphic and realistic, possibly the best WW2 film I ever saw. Subtitled in english, my wife hates that but I think it gives a film more realism.
Klimov, i think was the director.

Toy Story film...I just love em.

Cant remember the name or find it..a film about a bunch of guys in a small poor US community who go into the forest and find a crashed plane..stuffed with CIA money. A small lie becomes a bigger one until its completely out of control, leads to murder, loss of lifelong friendships, marriage etc.
I only watched it on a whim...ended up spellbound.

A Simple Plan is the film your talking about I think , good film !

I found a new one yesterday .. "Johnny English"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0274166/?ref_=sr_2

Saw it a few years ago, and thought it rather good, saw it again yesterday, and decided it is an underr-rated classic

Not really a big film fan but I have to admit I have watched The Warriors more times than another film, with the exception of the The Jungle Book, a perennial favourite of my grand children.
Honourable mention to Das Boot and Kelly Hero's.

Wall-E was a very pleasant surprise. Megamind to a lesser extent too.

I stumbled across a low budget comedy which is repeatedly shown on VIVA music channel on freeview called Death Valley. It's very childish and a spoof of the current fashion of all things zombies. The trailer is rubbish. One episode in particular based around parents visiting school to do a talk on their job is genius.

Warriors - good call. Almost an exploitation move, but also kind of anticipates the (serious-ish) comic book / graphic novel based movies. Great sound track too. Apparently very loosley inspired by Alexander the great's men fighting their way home (or some such)

And jungle book - saw it when it first came out, and again about 30 years later when my lodger brought it home on vhs. Brought a tear to my eye both times when Mowgli leaves his friends to go back to his people, and his girl maybe. Louis Primo's King of the Swingers still swings, and alwas will. it did occur to me that with the next but 2 new heir to the throne having Louis as his middle name - he could style himself King Louis and we could then have Kng of the Swingers as national anthem - now that would be cool

Not sure that Warriors is a guilty pleasure; it's just a great movie. As you say, an excellent soundtrack too.

The classical antecedent though is Xenophon's Persian Expedition, rather than Alexander. In Xenophon, the Greeks were in the employ of Cyrus - the name of the gang leader in Warriors.

Ah yes, that's the one - the Alexander story didn't quite sound right when I typed it.
Still, you can't expect full knowledge of classicsal Greek from a physics geek - even if I can identify all the letters.

Yep, great film but harrowing, not a film to watch if you're feeling down.

On the subject of WW2 films I just recently re-watched Conspiracy (finally got a DVD copy off ebay). I saw this made for tv film (BBC/HBO co production) a few years ago and have been desperate to see it again. It is a remarkable 90mins of film making and acting (Kenneth Brannah, Stanley Tucci, Colin Firth, David Threfall all outstanding) based on the Wannsee Conference where top Nazis met to discuss and plan the final solution. The script was based on the one surviving transcript of the meeting and the attention to detail (script, characterisation, location, art direction) is exceptional and it is a film that needs re watching. It is however horrific, not in the same way as Come and See, but to realise that this dramatic account is based on an actual event and real transcripts of what was said and how quickly the death machine that murdered over 6 million Jews was started days after this short conference ended.

Kellys Heroes - I do like this, especially the intro music (burning bridges).

I picked this up on the cheap on Google Play along with some other classics, like Short Circuit, Ghostbusters, Top Gun and Hook.

Where Eagles Dare is another film I quite enjoyed.

Jungle Book - easy top 10 for me - Bear Necessities is great

Not a top 10, but I did enjoy the Aug 2011 film: "The Smurfs".
