18th in the end. Losing my most expensive and third most expensive riders didn't give me much chance of a high finish.

Yup, know the feeling. My 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th= most expensive riders dropped out!

How does auto entry work ? - who selects the riders ? Team name etc ?

You do all that. But when you've finished creating your team, naming it and so on, if you scroll to the bottom you will find it has been added automatically to the Cyclechatting league (if you previously had a team in the Cyclechatting league at the Giro or other races)
