What do you do when a member of your family won't pay back money you lent them?
This is currently what is happening to me. I lent my grand son some money last April and am still waiting for it back. When I asked him what he was going to do about it, his reply was: " Nothing" . He also bought some goods on my Argos card and stopped his monthly payments. Again, when I asked him when he was going to resume paying, his reply was: " Up yours!" You can guess I refuse to talk or see him now until he grows up and start behaving like a decent human being. By the way, he will be 26 next month.
Apparently, my wife says he is sorry for his behaviour but never said that to me. Tough!

I'd not involve the police but equally I'd not lend him any more money. christmas and birthdays I'd not give him anything and be generous to any other grandchildren if I could afford to.

If you can't afford to loose the money you shouldn't lend to family or friends, as there is always this risk.

If a baseball bat/kneecap interface is out of the question; then I would have to agree with @T4tomo .

He's well old enough to be "grown up"
If he chooses to behave like this I'd ignore him and make sure he gets nothing else.
And cut him out of the will too ;)

Yeah likes that going help the situation!

I'd write it off and ignore him. He'll either come round and apologise or even though he's family he's not worth bothering with.

It'll help the situation by getting the OP his money back. Which is i presume why he posted about the subject in the first place.

Having said that. I wonder how much the OP lent him? I'm suggesting going down the police route assuming he lent him thousands, but if it's a few quid then i'd just learn from the experience and tell him to feck off the next time he comes a calling.
