fairweather cyclists

The sad thing is that many of these are mainly motorists cycling with the same attitude, skills and knowledge that they utilise when in their cars

It is just less acceptable and needs to be addressed now they are doing it on a bicycle

The more fair weather cyclists the better. They help improve my scalp statistics.

Ok, first let me say its cool that more people are cycling, but my issue with fair weather cyclists is they only come out for a couple of months a year (if that) and so they lack experience and do some stupid things. I think they should be made to have some training or just stay off the road.

What I really hate is fairweather forum posters...

They start a thread and when it goes sour, they're off.

They should be forced to do some kind of training or not be allowed to post at all.

What a way to introduce yourself to the forum. Straight in, no messing. Have you been on the double espresso's all day Brixbrom? This is a friendly forum with a wide range of views. Nothing that wrong with fairweather cyclists, some people arn't like myself or many others here who cycle no matter what the conditions are. It is the fact that they are getting out and riding when they want to. This forum caters for all cyclists, no matter when, how or what they ride. Welcome.:hello:

Today around Dorking, quite a few more experienced cyclists may have been aware I was quite a newcomer (albeit a 46 year oldone) and struggling at parts and fortunately they did not display your attitude :-)

A word of encouragement when you are struggling from someone moving past you really helps!

Welcome BB :welcome: .
I never understood why newcomers to a forum need to get approval before "kicking off". Great first post.

Here for rides.
I clock up several 1000 km a year being a fairweather cyclist. Wanna make something of it?

...and welcome.

That's told you Brixbrom.

There is a point about training however. I wouldn't force anyone to do it, but several Boroughs around these parts (London) provide free road skills training for cyclists, or did anyway; I don't know what the cuts have done to it. I did it three years ago and although I felt a bit of a wally in my yellow 'learner' bib, it was really useful. I would recommend it to anyone - fair weather or not.

I am also new to the forum so will tread carefully.
I dont intend to go out in the pouring rain just to clock up a few miles, although I take my hat off to our fellow cyclists who have no option but to brave the weather due to using it for commuting. Cycling in my opinion is all about having fun and getting some exersise. I havent rode a bike for 30 odd years but have plenty of road experience to hopefully keep me and other road users safe.
There you go, wasn't to bad after all....

Having only joined the forum yesterday I was surprised by Brixbrom's forum equivalent of blitzkrieg. I was out in the pouring rain this morning commuting in and nothing lifts the spirits more then overtaking a few fairweather riders. There are lots of bad/inconsiderate riders on the road and the vast majority of them are not inexperienced riders.

In my opinion the more riders the better. Nothing better than seeing a long queue of cyclists at the lights on Cable Street on CS3. Only problem is the plonker who decides its ok to overtake the entire line and then stop just over the line so we all have to overtake them again when the light goes green.

I totally agree with the OP. But don't stop at fair weather cyclists, what about fair weather pedestrians?!!! They have no pavement sense, wander about, dawdle, stop without warning GRRRR. Get them off the pavements now!!

And why do unemployed / retired people and tourists insist on cycling, driving or using public transport during rush hour? It should be limited for working people only, the others should be made to take their journeys when the rest of us are at work/home.

Rant rant rant
