Sounds good! It's a solution that I was thinking about. I am already on TalkTalk and they do a You-View deal including a free box. I might see if they will upgrade me to fibre and You-view for a small extra monthly charge.

You-View is free the same as Freeview is just buy a You-View box from a shop colin then you don't have to pay a monthly subscription, the only benefit you get (if you can call it that) with getting on from talktalk or BT is a few premium services and you have to pay for half of them anyway.

I'm looking at the TT prices, and I don't think their broadband/phone/You-view package is much more than I am paying themfor just broadband and phone!

I tried looking up the TT fibre price but their widget told me that it is not available here yet, which seems strange because the exchange has been upgraded and I am only 300 metres from it! I will check with BT Openreach and see what they say ...

Openreach says fibre not available yet here, though they are taking orders.

I think I will wait a while until they have connected my part of town up with fibre, then review my options. I am currently paying TT about £30 a month for unlimited 16 Mbit broadband plus line rental. I'm sure that I will be able to get a better deal than that. I think that I am beyond the minimum 2 year contract length now.

I pay just over £40 per month for my telephone line rental, unlimited calls to anywhere in the UK and unlimited 56mb Fibre Optic Broadband.

I'm not too bothered about calls because I don't use the phone much, but I would certainly pay an extra £10 for the higher speed fibre optic broadband. I'll upgrade to a better deal than my current one before the end of this year!

I think I was getting through just over 3 GB/day when the TdF was on so roughly 65 GB per 3-week Grand Tour, maybe 90 GB in those months. Once I start streaming HDTV the numbers would be somewhere between my current usage and yours.

It says in my TT t & c that a fair usage policy applies to my 'unlimited' broadband, which to me is a blatant contradiction and I am amazed that the industry is allowed that copout. The TT limit is 100 GB and ...

Whilst not currently doing so, TalkTalk Business reserves the right to impose a reasonable charge for usage exceeding any quoted fair usage limit.

I suspect that 350 GB in a month would catch their attention!

Hmm - it looks like they are offering much better deals than I signed up for originally - I had better contact them and demand one ...

When I signed up for the unlimited fibre I asked them what the limit was and they said there wasn't one and so far no one has complained over 1 year later so good enough for me. Also I couldn't put up with the bullshit customer service from some of the other companies such as TT and BT.

I have filed a technical report with Film4. Let's see how they respond to it ...
Ooh, I got a very prompt reply ...

We are sorry to hear that you have been experiencing technical difficulties recording Film4 on your PVR. May we suggest that you contact the maker of your PVR in regards to this problem as they will best be able to provide you with advice in how to resolve this issue.

Very useful! :wacko::laugh:

Film4 remained unrecordable until I did a test yesterday, and guess what? Yes, the fault which they said needed to be sorted out by the manufacturer of my Freeview PVR, mysteriously got fixed by something done by Film4 instead, as I requested back in January!

Oh well - better late than never!

We gave up with trying to get a good signal, or even a poor one (when we looked online there wasn't a clear transmitter in any direction), and ended up going down the freesat route and so far it has been good! Plus I can watch local news program's from around the country now!

Thanks.

My tablet almost choked on that list!

That confirms my suspicions ... I spotted things that I'd like to watch again, such as I'm Alan Partridge but could not find premium shows such as House. If I am going to pay a monthly subscription, I would want a wider choice.

I tend to keep my PVR's HDD about 40% full, so I have always have something to watch, and I can top that up with DVDs from my local library.

If you're interested, House is available on Netflix US, which is available if you use a proxy service like Unblock US.

I think Freesat HD might be the best bet, though I got a YouView offer from TalkTalk today and that looks interesting. I am with TalkTalk now so it might not cost much to upgrade. I don't think that YouView is fully featured yet, however.

£10 a month for Youview from TalkTalk. My contract ends November so I'm ditching the box. We have Freesat through which we watch other than when we want to record something, but like you were we only have limited Freeview reception and the picture breaks up during bad weather which by Sod's law always happens during a recording.

What do you get for the £10 I have youview and it doesnt cost me anything apart from the purchase of the box.
