Yeah, that's what puts me off too. If it wasn't for that ...

I do actually have a ROUGH idea of what this would take, based on other hilly rides I've done (e.g. the Bristol Audax, 300km+ long with close to 5km of climb). With good support and good conditions, I'm pretty sure I could do it in under 24hours.
But although I quite like the concept of this - in the same way I liked watching Free Solo - i think I'd die of boredom, and would rather attempt a b*st*rd hilly 400km that actually goes somewhere!
If a local group of friends arranged everything, I could probably be talked into it.
Just checked my records. Most I've ever done is 2,700m (a century ride on a cut-down version of a 200k audax called "The Shark"). But I was (a) absolutely dead on my feet at the end and (b) much fitter then than I am now.
But 8,848m? No, I don't even have the slightest idea of what it would take.
Its about 5 Mont Ventoux ascents I think if my sums / veloviewer records are right - no thanks1 doing it on a relatively short UK hill would be boring in the extreme.

I'd love to be fit enough for boredom to be a consideration. Boredom I can easily deal with, just takes a bit of grit. Legs that have fallen off ... that's another question.
Gas Hill, off Riverside near Ketts Hill, is just what you need, nlmkiii
Pub at the bottom, no driving to get there, her at home to make you cake for your return, and averaging 10.7%.
That's also about 1 Mount Everest. I think.

#125 on Simon Warren's list of 100 climbsis Beacon Hill in Cromer. That's really handy for Norwich.

Unfortunately it may not be exactly the ideal hill for Everesting. It's 65m high and 1.2km long so that it would require 137 ascents and would require 329km of riding. That's 204 miles.
Hang on a minute, add an extra mile and you have a 205 mile "Godwin" (link). You could knock them both off at once - an Everest and a Godwin. What's not to like?

I am a bit worried about boredom! In the past I've found that things get a bit monotonous after 10 hours, and it would probably take me double that. So TBH I wonder if my legs will give way before then anyway!
I don't know if I'll be able to do it. But I did do a half everesting in November. It hurt a lot, but I could have kept going, and I've lost 10kg since then and added about 60W to my FTP (320 now vs 260 then). so I reckon it's a maybe.
Still not sure, it's definitely, at best, a maybe. But a maybe I'm keen on having a bash at!
