Ever had a tyre go like this?

When I was in Vietnam, on two separate occasions I saw a 29 er Bontrager MTB tyre bulge out like that and then finally they split and the tubes came out and exploded. We never did find out the reason for this happening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's more, take it back without riding on it again. It won't last very long at all, and if it fails on the road it's likely to make refund/exchange more questionable since it will no longer be obvious that there are no cuts

Looks like a hernia to me. Probably a similar cause/ effect.
