Ever had a tyre go like this?

This is annoying. Brand new Vittoria rally tubulars, less then 50 miles on them and this evening I notice a lump ballooning from the centre of the tread.

I guess I must have ridden over something 'pointy' but not sharp enough to cut the tread as there's no sign of any cutting to the surface.

Definitely for the bin, so glad it was only a cheap tyre, but is this a common failure mode, or have I just been unlucky, or are vittoria rallys just cr@p?

I'd be taking that back under warranty if it's brand new. It looks like a faulty tyre rather than a puncture to me.

I had it happen on both the cheap tyres that came with a carrera virtuoso I had. Both got replaced under warranty.

Thanks for the opinions folks - I'll take it back the LBS and see what they have to say before I bin it.

Might be one to refer back to Vittoria. I had a faulty Schwalbe Marathon racer a couple of years back, LBS (who had fitted it not noticing the missing 6 inches of bead) weren't in the slightest bit interested. Schwalbe were superb & replaced it by return of post.

apropos of nothing Vittoria Radonneurs are very good vfm general purpose tyres but an absolute swine to get on and off.

Yeah, happened to mine too.
Wont find me buying much from Halfords now.
Ended up buying a new bike because of them.

Same here, things kept falling apart on my virtuoso, after a month I was sick of it and demanded my money back as the product was not fit for its intended use.
