I left Ireland to get away from bad people and came to lodge with my brother, whom, at the time, I thought lived in Scotland, it wasn’t until I had driven off the ferry and bought a road atlas that I realised that Barrow-in-Furness was in England and not a suburb of Glasgow. A bit of luck meant I could buy a house here and finally get away from working for the health service.
I sat in a lay-by mentally kicking myself for about ten minutes.

My previous car, I had the spare key in case I lost one in a magnetic holder under the chasis. One day I went to beach at Croyde, and because of the sand I moved the box in to the glove-box..................have you guessed it yet?

I read that and immediately thought.... there's a beach in Croyden??

Back in the day I had an 850cc Mini.
In those days you could swap/change/repair most things.
When the fuel pump 'died' I went to the scrap yard for a replacement.
So.......I crawled underneath, found and removed the old one.......DUH:wacko:......I never thought the fuel was gravity fed.
There I was, lying under the car with petrol pouring over my head and shoulders. Trying to reattach the pipe with my eyes screwed tight was not easy.
I still remember thinking "I hope no one drops a fag end near me or I am dead.

Once I went out for a ride, chugged around for about 3 hours, got back to my village and remembered I wanted to get some bread before coming back to my apartment.
Went to shop, lock out, hand in pocket for key.
No key. Pocket zippier was open.
Either I'd left the key at the apartment, in which case the door was unlocked, or the key was somewhere on the ground in the 20 odd kilometre route. The second of these was the more worrying.
Back on bike, race across village, through gate around to apartment door.
Door wide open, key in lock.
Inside, computer on table, work smart phone on charger.

Neighbour rang me up at work, two hours away to ask if I wanted the front door closing as it was banging in the wind and I could not be seen. Very gratefully I said yes and then they asked and what about the keys, shall we keep them as well. Doh!

Not 'stupidity' really but...

...I cannot seal zip lock bags. Not for the life of me. Dunno why. I'll hand the bag to my wife and she'll seal it up in nano seconds. Between thumb and forefinger... swish, zip, done. She tells me how to do it, shows me how to do it, but I just cannot get it.

After the discovery of this Mrs D put a poll on Facebook. The male respondents thought I was a genius, while the female ones thought I was a nutter. No non binary respondents expressed a view.

Ahh but have you discovered toastie bags yet to hold everything together so you don’t need to ruin a toaster.

On a similar vein, toaster plugged in and live, I used a fork to get some stuck bread out and got an almighty hiss, pop and smoke as I touched the element thus destroyed the thing.

Dunno about in your place but in ours the recycling centre uses a camera connected to a computer to filter the recycling
If it doesn;t look like a bottle to the camera it gets diverted and sent to landfill

so cutting it up would result in it being rejected
So your council doesn't recycle any plastic except bottles?

That doesn't seem reasonable.

Yep, couple of times I've been out to walk the dog and, on return, seen the keys in the door. I'd love to know what's happening in my mind at those moments.

Reminds me of the time I took the dog for a walk in the woods behind our house. They're pretty empty so he doesn't need a lead, I just walk and he runs around checking on me every so often.

I was a good 20 minutes into the walk when I noticed I hadn't seen him for a while. In fact I couldn't remember seeing him at any point during the walk. As I arrived home, there he was, in the kitchen giving me an odd expression through the patio door.

Let's just say I was under quite a lot of stress at work and had a lot on my mind at the time.
