I've never heard of the term hydrolocking, but have no interest in cars other than driving them, although I do have common sense.

It can happen for a few reasons. Water sucked in via air inlet/filter. Head gasket leaking into cylinders. Fuel injector faulty on full open

Some years ago, a work colleague drove one of the firm's cars to put it away in one of the warehouses. In doing so, he drove at speed through a sizeable puddle. This was Friday. On Monday when someone else tried to drive said car back out again, the brakes had; as I understood, seized because of the puddle incident and the car then being left over the weekend to 'fester' so to speak.
The manager was not happy - !

Absolutely crazy attempts to cross a deep ford. I've lost count of those cars that stalled out before reaching the other side.

Even the EV drivers are tempting fate

Especially when there's an alternative way in that's about a minute longer.

That said most of the crossings are done by people travelling miles just to do it. The weirdos.

Out cycling today I found a couple of cars abandoned presumably after flooding their engines yesterday. Surprisingly the roads had recovered much better than I thought they would have.

Your use of the word " abandoned " got me thinking that the introduction of " Salvage rights " such as they have / had on the high seas would make for more considerate driving 🏴‍☠️

They were both in the middle of the road - I was quite surprised that they hadn't been recovered already. I guess when you break down in water - you stay where you were. Unless you bob away...

Watched one of many YouTubes last night about vehicles 'fearlessly tackling' flooded roads, especially at a ford.
The best was the owner of a fancy BMW who obviously thought he was invincible; until his Beemer stalled halfway through the flooded ford.
The best part was the look on his face when his Beemer was being winched onto the recovery truck. He opened one of the back doors to see quite a few litres of water draining out - !

When I was much younger I was even more stupid than I am now.

I used to drive through fords or floods (not above sill level obv) keeping one foot lightly on the clutch and revving the engine to stop water getting in the exhaust. My excuse is that that was what I had been told to do.

Luckily I never came to any grief as a result.

Well the deed was done , picked up our EV on Friday past . Used public charging a few times and seems straightforward enough . Of course will be installing a home charger . Will also be moving onto the IO Octopus tariff as well .
EV wasn’t really on the horizon this time last year but selling the tin tent and paying a bit more attention to what we were spending a year on VED between our two cars ……. It’s fair bit of cash wasted ! Oh and the fact I wasn’t ready to dump another £2k into getting my Disco fixed and through another MOT !!! Man maths at work here !!

It is - the painful bit is when you are travelling as there are so many different charging companies all with their own apps.

I doubt many of us will be considering a Rolls Royce Spectre as a new EV, but the dashboard design is interesting.

Rolls has eschewed the huge screen/screens with loads of menus and apps, opting instead for something that looks very much like a traditional ICE car layout.

Typical Rolls in the sense their cars have never had pointless gadgets, including rev counters - one doesn't drive a Rolls in that manner.

I reckon they may be onto something which could apply to those of us in the real world.

Do buyers really want acres of touch screens and endless menus/settings/spps on their family hatchbacks?

I suspect not.

As Rolls understands, sometimes less is more.

Edit: Looks like I've failed to load a dashboard pic, but there is one on the overblown configurator.
