many people don't understand this.
But if you're an 'entitled' SUV owner, this doesn't apply to you - !

Another mate of mine got caught in a flash flood in Germany in his Porsche Boxster. The water came into the cabin over the door sills. The engine wasn't running, as he had stopped but he couldn't escape the rapidly rising water.

He told me apart from the indicators doing funny things everything would be fine once dried out. I told him that's when it will be forever having major intermittent issues. A few months pass. I said how is the Boxster- reply written off due to electrical damage. He was paid out too.

Why? EVs can cope with floods better than most ICEs and to avoid heavy rain?? WTAF?!! Are they also warning ICEs to stay out of puddles or is it assumed that people know this?

Apparently rescue organisation are saying the batteries are supposed to be sealed but they aren’t. They are warning of electric shocks

Where are you seeing this dubious news?

Greatest hits radio, the warning comes from Leicestershire fire and rescue keep away from flood water
repeated every hour since 10am and they mentioned EVs and batteries

Everyone should keep away from floodwaters. You don't know what's under there. You can't really tell how deep it is - or how much water would float your car.
I've seen the Leaf tested by Nissan at 70cm water depth. Would I try that in real life ? Heck no.

I don't think any EV maker would be selling cars and not waterproofing them to a decent extent.

.individual lith-ion cells are extremely well waterproofed because water in the electrolyte is an exothermic reaction with high risk of explosive thermal runaway. Same risk in your phone battery!

Assemble a large number of cells into a battery with active thermal gubbins, bms sensors and control gear to switch large charging currents, discharge wiring ... Well, it's probably difficult to waterproof it.

Likely its good enough to cope with downpours and deep puddles. Floods might be another matter. Depth threshold... Who knows?

You’re driving along in a convoy of vehicles you round a bend and are faced with a flooded field draining across the road. The vehicles in front slow to wade thro you must follow, those behind you will get upset if you stop and there’s large vehicles coming towards you with bow waves making things much worse. To be frank, you don’t know what’s around the next corner.

Tough poo. You are driving your car, not theirs. They can wait, let you turn, or go round. If they want to be idiots that's their perogative.

Who cares. It's you duty to drive your vehicle responsibly.

I mean I'll drive through puddles but take each situation on its own merits.

Always helps if there's a sucker in front of you driving through so you can gauge things but I'm not going to blindly keep going because there's people behind me.
