Got a friend that has a Hyundai plug in hybrid - the bigger one than above. They use it mainly on electric for local drives - range of 40 miles is more than enough, then have the ice option for their longer trips. Lovely car !

Been considering a Merc GLC hybrid , apparently they are very good in battery . Which would be great for round town . Probably big enough for what we need .

Said friend was getting a Merc, but they messed him about. He has the Hyundai now. I've been in it and it is quality bit of kit, and quiet. If you mainly do little hops/city drives, then do long drives occasionally, I can see the advantage of plug in's - 40 mile range on normal tarrif leccy is cheaper than dino juice. But they don't do enough miles or 'runs' like some others do. It's a family car that does all the local stuff on electrons mainly, most weeks, then is OK on a big trip on Dino juice.

What's not to like - I think you need to weigh up your vehicle choice by use - I'm having a big re-think at the moment. I don't really need a car, and I expect it will have to go, if others in the family need one for work - i.e. daughter after Uni - mine can go as I am not happy with us having more than we need.

I'd check some of the KW per mile rating on some cars too - like you do MPG, but it's a bit odd with leccy cars...

Tesla's do OK at 3.5 to 4 on usual use. Some smaller cars don't do so good - I was a bit surprised that the Honda e isn't so good despite it's smaller size/weight - @CXRAndy is possibly someone that knows what cars are OK on this - bear in mind a heavy car should be worse, but some small cars don't seem too good

I think Tesla has the best KW/mile out of any car. Source: saw various tests on YouTube, particularly carwow. (take that how you will but seems true).

They do, but no-one really researches what their leccy car does - it's quite important too. No Tesla fan, but if the car is doing near the 4 figure generally, it's good. If your little city car is returning 3, hmm, that's the best place for a leccy city car.

We can get around 3.8-4 miles/kW on the Tesla's. Funnily I was checking our 62kW Nissan's economy figure. I haven't reset it in several thousand miles, so its a good average it has 3.7kW. It mainly drives up and down 70mph dual carriageway.

I would say any EV with 3.5 is ok, getting towards 4 with normal driving is good.

I'd use this website for more realistic efficiency figures. They are in Watt/hours per miles ( convert by....... 1000/Whr to get miles per kWatt)

I have my MINI set to record on a journey by journey basis. Through the summer if I get less than 4.5 I’m disappointed - often getting over 5 without having to drive too carefully. In the winter it’s more like 3.8-4.0.

Yes, we too get much better miles in summer. Our commute is high speed, so efficiency drops. I would expect proper urban to city commutes would result in the best efficiency. EVs become more efficient slower the average speed

My ID4 is nowhere near as efficient. Usually between 3 and 3.5 on daily drives.

It's a bit like the Nissan Ariya. Nice looking vehicle, spoilt by insufficient battery size and heavy. I understand that Nissan isn't really selling any due to these failings

Hmm, there are quite a few manufacturers being a bit coy about their 'efficiency' - it's just as important as it is for ICE drivers.
