We do between 35-50 thousand miles a year with our EVs. The main workhorse EV, Nissan Leaf has been charged twice away from home. This vehicle does the vast majority of daily trips, 750 miles per week, most weeks

We do about 12,000 miles a year anyway which is above the average I believe by a fair bit.
Pass. We have also done about 12000 miles in the first year of owning an EV though.

Isn't most of your mileage on the same daily route? Apologies if I have the wrong person.

Problems upthread have arisen when venturing into the 'unknown' and when a recharge is likely to be needed.

Yes it is. It's a fast route, this morning I completed the round trip in a little over an 1hr10, 66 miles.

Yesterday I was attending a machinery demonstration up in the Lincolnshire Wolds, so had nearly 150 mile day in my car while the wife did the school run.

We are fortunate to be able to charge multiple vehicles upto 22kWatt each simultaneously.

35,000 miles plus a year in a tin box. I'd go insane, hence only doing 3000 at most, and commuting by bike.

What's an EV like for insurance for newly qualified drivers as a named driver - I'm assuming pretty high ?

Lot's of differing options being explored at the moment. Our static caravan may be going soon (12 months), so rather than spend on another, that may go on a camper van, but would mean my car goes as does a potential EV option ! Choices/choices.

Niece is paying just short of £400 per month and that's with a "box" fitted.

To what car is it fitted?

If it's a high performance EV, yes expect a very, very high premium. My daughter who is now over 25 can drive our car with hardly any loading. They actually rent Teslas for weekend jaunts now for a fair deal.

It's a lot of miles, that's why we wanted EVs. Time wise, it's roughly the same time it used to take when we lived in Leeds to get into the city 4 miles was 45mins. I do over 30 miles in just over half an hour. So glad we left city/suburban living, that was some 20 years ago. Would never ever live in a town or city now

Okay!, it’s not fully electric, but daughter has just collected this earlier this afternoon

‘Mild Hybrid’ (self-charging)
Not sure what the range is, purely on electric?

If it's a Kona hybrid, they have a tiny 1.56kW battery capacity. It's not capable to propel solely on electric for any great distance. More of an assistance to get off from standstill.

I really don't see any significant benefit to these vehicles. At best Ok in town and average on longer drives

Mpg is not greatly improved over a full ICE, C02 is still over 100g/km

A better hybrid car would be the Toyota RAV4 hybrid with
42 miles
Range, Charging, and Battery Life

The plug-in hybrid RAV4 Prime stores its electrons in an 18.1-kWh battery pack

Got a friend that has a Hyundai plug in hybrid - the bigger one than above. They use it mainly on electric for local drives - range of 40 miles is more than enough, then have the ice option for their longer trips. Lovely car !
