According to todays papers, MPs are lobbying the PM to re-think the 2030 deadline for petrol cars. How can anybody just pull a date out of thin air for the end of petrol car sales anyway?

Did you hear on the news today about the deoxygenated water ? When we get a hot spell the water heats up and loses capacity to carry oxygen.
A typical June has about 5 reports. This year was 50.

The only people who will benefit from extending the deadline for petrol cars will be the petrochemical industry. Who have millions if not billions of pounds to influence MPs and journalists.

The deadline wasn't pulled out of thin air. It was announced in 2017 and seems to be bob on with development of alternatives to me ?

Anyone had any experience of using Shell Recharge?
Tried one out today (CCS) but it kept on shutting off after 2-3% saying charge complete.
The real comedy value is when the staff tell you to phone the helpline, and you stand by the charger that is surrounded by signs saying you must not use your mobile phone on the forecourt.

Feels like they haven't thought it through...

Certainly does.

I have been dithering over buying an EV, I was looking at the MG4, but, the Volvo looks competitive.

Not sure I will actually buy anything, our annual mileage is so low, I am probably doing the environment a favour by simply continuing with our 1,5dci Renault.

Our ICE car was purchased new almost 1 year ago (VW) and has only covered 3400 miles.

We will change it in a few years time, probably for an EV.

The change is a way off and we might be drawn to the Volvo although it is more than we probably want to spend on a car tbh. But we could be tempted - the interior looks classy too.

We will also be keeping an eye out for the VW ID2 All: due in 2026 especially if the promised SUV version materialises.

Daughter has used it on our Nissan Leaf, no problem

looks like a model 3 inside. I wonder who will get their cheap model out first Tesla or VW.

I don't know who will and am not bothered tbh but hope that we get some real-life usage experiences in this thread.

I've pretty much decided that by the time of my next car puchase that I will become an EV owner.

We only need a smallish car these days so the baby Tesla, ID2 or EX30 would be in the mix - although the market may well have changed significantly by then and other options may be available.

It will be interesting to see if VW can hit their stated price point (albeit for what will be the most basic ID2).

What I've garnered from this thread is that EV owners are reporting a positive experience which bodes well.

I've managed to convince myself that 'range anxiety' is not worth fretting about. Range is getting better as new models hit the road and we have only been out of Cumbria 3 times this year with once more planned, ergo, hardly a big life problem.

How do the Tesla service centres stack up in your experience?

Carlisle is our nearest but we could really do with one in the South Lakes.

One of the reasons we would be inherently biased towards VW & Volvo is that we have both dealerships on our doorstep.

I'm not sure if it has already been mentioned " up thread " but there's an excellent YouTube channel from a chap based if Yorkshire ( I think ) which addresses lots of issues and preconceptions in a refreshingly honest way.

I've just done an auto trader looking at any EV within 20 miles. You can get a lot of car for much less than £15k used, the prices are way cheaper than used ICE. Some I never knew existed - Merc B Class EV - £12k...whaaat ?

Corsa E's below £15k, Leaf's from £6k up, new Leaf £10k up

They're patchy to be honest. My best experience has been from Milton Keynes and Leeds. I like Milton because the reservoirs are just a short walk away . All day can be spent seeing and cycling around them

Tesla only need servicing every couple of years , maybe upto 3 years for brake fluid. Everything else is non service required. I tend to do tyre changes, wipers myself.

No faults on the Tesla to panic about, most issues are updated via software updates which are done remotely

Nissan try and get you to go in yearly, basically to kick the tyres, do software
