Emigration

If you had the opportunity to emigrate would you do it?

Once worked with this Hong Kong guy who was half Japanese and half Chinese. He regarded himself Japanese and thus a cut above his Chinese colleagues. And I see that his profile is on t'internet and that he is now a UK citizen! Clearly British is best..

Funny you say this as we have an Indian born guy come into my works to train us up on a 3d CAD system, and he reckoned that the Japanese passprt is the best one to have in terms of visa requirements for the resst of the world

Parts of the south are grim...
Most of Wales is pretty grim for incoming English. A friend who lived in the north for a decade, tho' surrounded by the most wonderful countryside, was also surrounded by neighbours who viewed her with grudging tolerance at best and outright and really quite virulent hostility at worst - just for being English.

My Uncle owns a farm in the Gower (born and bred landowners stretching back hundreds of years), and was quite upset with the way the nationalists were treating the English back int he early 80's. I recall a conversation he had with his mate in front of me when it was reported on the TV.

The xenophobia is a really serious problem for other Asians in Japan, even those whose families have lived here for generations, and for darker-skinned people.
I believe the Japanese and Koreans in particular get on like a house on fire. Which is to say, they'd cheerfully set fire to each other's houses, for no reason.

My wife has emigrated twice – or maybe five times, depending how you're counting (and how you're defining it, as some moves seemed permanent at the time): from Sri Lanka to England back to Serendib back to England to the States then back to England. Over the years she's experienced more sexism than racism, but still catches a few stares from the sea of white on the train into the city.

Yeah, there have actually been demonstrations this year in Tokyo (admittedly by a handfull of the saddest right-wing cases you will ever see) calling for all Koreans in Japan to be expelled or killed, just in case.

Put it this way, most of the locals I meet on the lanes ride horses rather than bikes for recreation. Don't think I could afford a horse.

They are ridiculously expensive to keep in the SE. One of ours came from Epsom (travellers), the other came from a place about 15 miles east of Guilford. (horse dealer) for £750, the other was £350.

You couldn't get a good Carbon bike for what they collectively cost to buy. Most of my horse widget customers are just ducking and diving to making it happen and they are all over the world.

I've never had any thoughts of emigrating but I would love to move to the Lake District...particularly Ambleside or Grasmere. Imagine having that scenery to put up with while out on the bike...sheer hell .
You can have too much of a good thing. Now I don't appreciate it until I spend some time elsewhere(like London eeuuggh)

Even China? A pretty large chunk of the world?
