I saw someone riding one of these things yesterday morning, in the quite frosty/icy start that we had
He'd been on/off pavements as it suited causing traffic to swerve, & of course his hand gestures suggested that it was the car-drivers who had it all wrong
I got alongside of him & one point & quite jovially suggested that he was the one who was doing it all wrong, he also had an ('IRA style') balaclava on
I got no sense from him at all, just abuse
Then as I stopped at a traffic-light, he sailed past (over the Aire & Calder Navigation Canal, at 'Stanley Ferry')

By the time the lights changed he was ahead, but ventured onto the pavement again, as Ferry Lane & Nellie Spindler Drive diverge

I took 'FL', as it has a short hill on my commute, but not the long-drag of 'NSD' (both meet at the same point)

I heard a scraping/sliding noise to my left, I looked round to see scooter-man on the ground partially underneath a 3-rail fence
He found out that pavements aren't gritted in icy weather

Happy?, I was still chuckling when I arrived at the Hospital

I shouldn't laugh, he could have bruised his poor ickle botty ...:cycle:

Or scraped the skin off it, & his hands

I notice that, if a bike crashed on ice then people would be asking if the bike was OK
scooter
not so much!
Yes, I think it's the following formula.
Lorry Driver looks down on Motorist. Motorist looks down on Scooterist, Cyclist and Pedestrian, Cyclist looks down on scooterist and pedestrian. Scooterist looks down on cyclist and pedestrian, Pedestrian looks down on cyclist and scooterist.

The e-scooter is the vehicle that was in use in an antisocial, and illegal, manner.

If you'd care to check you'd find a similar attitude to cyclists who ride in the manner described of the e-scooter rider.

I haven't seen any posts laughing about someone coming off their bike.

There's a guy here in Bristol who rides around on an overclocked fast ebike. Its black, with an obviously big battery compartment covered in what looks like black insulating tape. He dresses entirely in black and has the 'IRA' balaclava. Oh...and no lights. I've seen him go from a standing start to about 40mph in a few seconds....of course, not pedalling although it looks like it still has them. I've seen him overtake a motorbike in the city centre at speed. This idiot rides at shocking speeds along roads, cyclepaths and pavements, obviously gets a big kick from speed. Just wondering if I'll come across him sprawled all over the road....his luck will run out one time. Just hope he doesn't take innocent folk out with him. He's been on the Bristol Railway path, shooting past everyone at high speed.

Only one ! Most of the deliveroo riders have these in Manchester. I get passed daily by a chap on a BSO that literally flies along a shared path - you only know as he's right up behind you and you hear the whurr of the tyres. Also a couple of modified scooters too, that blast along. I see one regular, but it's not modified enough to get up a steep climb - the rider pushes. He whizzes past me on the flat though.

I did say behaving in a manner similar to the e-scooter rider. Anti social and illegally.
Don't put say I said something I didn't.
No you didn't.
You said:-

I haven't seen any posts laughing at cyclists being a bit of a nobber who have then come off on ice and potentially injured themselves.

We’ve got one like that (barring the balaclava)
He brags that his will touch 45MPH

Those of us who ride (legally:seriously) have told him we will give statements to Police if he’s involved in a RTC, about his claims of speed
We will also suggest the bike is examined carefully

He just responds with the “it was like that, when l bought it!”

We know better, & will, in the case of someone else being injured, will give those statements

He is obviously hoping to ignore the old adage; Ignorance Of The Law Is No Defence

These ignorant selfish numpties are, and will further, damage everything for the majority who bother no-one and nothing, whether or not they are riding to the absolute letter of the law.

There's a young bloke near me who I often see riding one of those gyroscopic wheels. HOWEVER he keeps a close eye out back and front (has a helmet-mounted mirror) and gets off the darned thing the moment he sees someone approaching, and picks it up. He recognises me, and a few of the regular dog walkers, and doesn't get off immediately but slows right down until - usually - he has to step off it anyway. He is no problem to anyone (except to himself; I am sure that one day he will slither or skid into the canal!) and is more than willing to show interested people how the thing works, where he stands, how he controls it etc.

If all users of these illegal - but clearly fun - things were like him, there would be no issues or complaints from any normal person. As it is, though, there are idiots - on wheels and on fast feet - who speed along the local tracks and paths taking less than no care around dogs, children, walkers, wheelchairs, cyclists, etc etc. They are the ones who will get barrier gates and preventative patrols installed, and reduce both access and enjoyment of legitimate users, yet who will themselves be affected not one whit by barriers (which they will break down or climb through/over) or patrols (which they will merely flee).
