Only really used eBay once or twice, but I often had the impression that the honour system was a little flawed. Anyone giving a -ve feedback was equal to anyone else giving -ve feedback... but that's not really how I felt it should work.

Lets say I'm a particularly unscrupulous seller (or buyer) and lots of people give me -ve feedback. In return, I threaten to give them the same in return. But why should mine have the same weight? If so many people think I am a bad auctioneer, surely my opinion should have less validity?

The same is true in reverse, of course. A highly rated user leaving negative feedback should have more weight than a non-respected user.

But then... meh.

I recently ordered a bike tyre which didn't arrive after a week. The selller asked me to leave it a couple of days which I did. When I e-mailed again to say it still hadn't arrived, he immediately sent out a replacement. Mistakes do happen and the seller should make amends. If it was a 2nd hand item I would expect a full refund if it was faulty/wrong/didn't arrive.
If I were you, I would leave neg feedback to reflect my disappointment. Before purchasing anything on ebay I always look at recent feedback, including the comments.
If the seller doesn't make amends, go to 'leave feedback/more options', complain through this to the seller and if still no joy you can open up a case file and ebay will refund you. I've made around 200 purchases and only had a couple of probs, and one refund from ebay.

BTW, people get carried away on ebay. I recently bid on Mario Cart (got the kids a Wii for this Xmas) and they keep going for around £25, 2nd hand. You can get it brand new for £26 with wheel on Play.com! Same goes for DVDs, quite often Play/Amazon/Tesco are cheaper.

I run an ebay shop as a part of my ecommerce website, over the years I've had a few issues, not many but if I have any problems with people I buy from I'm always reluctant to leave negative feedback, in fact I never have done. I prefere to sort it out via email. I've only received one negative feedback in the last three years. This was from a woman who had ordered two items from me and I only sent one. It was a genuine mistake by me. It was caused because at the time I was looking after my 2 yearoild granddaughter who was busy pulling apart my little office and hitting computer keys trying to get donkey derby on.
Anyway she emailed me and told me she had only received one item. I appologized and said I would post another one immediately. Sorted, or so I thought. When I checked my account however I saw she had left me negative feedback. I contacted her and asked her what the problem was, why had she done it when I had sorted the issue out and it was down to a simple mistake which I rectified as soon as I was made aware of it.
I went on to explain that she could ruin my good reputation and diminish my sales on ebay. I told her she should be more careful about destroying people's reputations especially when there was no call to do so, and that giving people negative feedback is not very nice especially when it's uncalled for.
She sent me a long email back appologizing and explaining that she did it because she was mad with her boyfriend who she'd had anargument with at the time and she tooki it out on me. Hahahahaha I had to laugh. Personally ebay feedback has lost it's relevance now. It's a bit of a guid but not to be taken seriously.
