This made me laugh, really!

You keep posting as you are and at the end just chuck in a selection of commas, full stops and exclamation marks and tell the reader to' distribute as necessary'.

Its an ikea post??

Hiya Blue.

Very much getting your drift there.

I am one of those who doesn't care any more.
If they want to they can, I will probably put them on ignore at some point anyway.

As I am thinking about this subject & believe me I am trying to be careful here, MDB commented on some grammar of mine only this week, not in an offensive way I might add.
As I kind of know MDB in a forum sense & believe struck up a good forum relationship (leave it out) with him I don't or didn't need to get into a heated debate over it. If the tone had been darker or I hadn't known what a wind up merchant he is, calling @Mad Doug Biker then this might have been different.

I did?? What was it?? I don't remember per se.

Couple of quick points.

I don't believe anyone here (I certainly hope not) would confuse dyslexia with any lack of intelligence or effort*
However sometimes there are posts or topics where that which is written shows no signs of effort at all. I think text-speak falls into this area. If you are looking for peoples attention and time, then I think it's only polite to try to make an effort to write properly (and that is different from dyslexia).

This is also a cycling forum and a lot of posts contain errors like these for example; 'breaks' when they mean 'brakes' and 'peddles' when they mean 'pedals'. If done constructively and politely I don't see anything wrong with pointing this out. It seems a common mistake these days.

Regarding pedantry and etymology on this forum it is very often done among those that' know' each other as a bit of fun and it can be quite informative for some of us bystanders.

Whilst this is only an internet forum done for shoots and giggles, there are still many that think language, grammar and word usage are important and hence become mildly miffed at falling standards and repeated abuse of what is a very beautiful and precise language. Sometimes they vent their frustrations here as we all do from time to time on various topics. I'm far from perfect but understand the importance of the written word.

*My eldest daughter is dyslexic, I understand the appalling frustrations this brings.

i can remember as a kid in my first 2 schools (back when you had infants, juniors, then senior schools) i was always accused of being lazy with my written work because im quite good with my spoken words the schools couldn't understand why i couldn't Wright anything without some rather silly mistakes, and no matter how many times i read something i still cant see anything wrong with it.
i was lucky as the senior school i went to had some great teachers and in the first year i had been tested and told i had dyslexia and i started getting the help i needed. but even with all the help throughout my senior school years when i left school at 16 years old i had the writing age of 8 and the reading age of 6.
with numbers im quite good i love working things out in my head even working vat out when buying things i find quite easy. but give me words and letters and i really struggle.
and i think that a lot of people dont realise just what dyslexia is most people seem to think its just that you cant spell but its so much more than that in fact you can be great with letters and words but be number dyslexic. the way im affected is i dont recognise letters and words they dont look like letters or words they look more like just shapes. its quite hard to explain. even to this day i get confused between b and d im fine if they are capitals but little letters i cant notice the difference. im not to bad when typing them because i know that b (B) is on the bottom line and d(D) is on the middle but if im writing by hand i quite often get them the wrong way around. and i do it without realising even if im copying something it will look fine to me but i quite often get letters mixed up.

if I go back to my infant schoolbooks, most of my writing is mirror writing (left handed) starting on the left of the page and working towards the right. Things got significantly worse for me when people wanted me to start writing from the left to the right (here's hoping I got that one the correct way around) and declined even further when I was made to use my right hand to write with!

d's and b's are still a common mix up here as well, e's and a's were often mirrored back then despite my name containing both and even my own name is illegible in most places! For some reason, p's & q's were often mixed up in my early days as well... I still find it easier to write mirror writing than conventional writing but I can write with both hands (not even going to try to spell that word ). My left hand is legible, untidy, slow, unjoined , my right hand fast, illegible to most but very neat (even I struggle to read it at times!) A keyboard has been a fantastic revelation for me after I taught myself to type. All I have to do is make sure what my hands type is what I am actually thinking of - often it is not!

@SatNavSaysStraightOn I'm definitely not dyslexic, in fact I fall more into the pedant camp (isn't it obvious that there's a difference between there, their and they're? And how difficult can it be to remember which is which? Well, obviously the answers for some people are no, and very.) Anyway what I was going to say is that I find that I've thought something and typed something else - which doesn't happen when I'm writing. It is quite odd.

I can write something totally different as well as say something totally different from what I plan to say as well as type something totally different. The words just switch of their own accord and I am usually unaware that I have done it. typing/writing helps because I can more easily correct what I have written than I can what I have said and I am all too well known for saying what I think which often does not go down very well. writing it/typing it (email responces) are much easier for me in that sense, I have just had to program myself to double check everything first.

Yeah probably classic.

There in lies the problem with forums to a degree.

Even if you are being ultra careful and don't compose your post perfectly, the reader might decipher your intentions somewhat differently & conclude that your a nob (not you classic) if you get my drift.

It can be hard work, but it's fun & as someone else posted we all share a common ground CYCLING, a little plagiarism there, but the poster had a point.

Happy CC foruming to you too.

(and no I won't have your babies) I don't have the woom

I think you'll find that's womb, not woom.

Unless you were deliberately trying to tempt out the know it alls, ah sh!t you just have.

I had good grammer and punctuation drummed into me at school so I do always try to write correctly, even my very rare text messages are in the style of an essay rather than the nonsense that you'd normally expect from a teenager.

It means I do pick up on mistakes in posts I read on here, but I don't feel the need to publicly correct someone as the replies on this thread are in line with my thoughts. ie. there may well be a good reason for them.

The only ones I have occasionlly corrected are where a grammer nazi has tried to prove how clever they are but included a grammatical mistake in their reply, that's just too tempting not to.

You're safe enough. See Mickles thread "Bollox" for a better/fuller answer.
