i wasn't allowed here neither, it was deleted......i also believe there is a lot of unconscious bias at play here on occasions, which doesn't help matters
I'm not sure it's just here jowwy, i think that's life in general nowadays. Everyones either too scared to say the wrong thing...or leaping up in apoplectic rage at something someone else said. This is where we are sadly, this sites no different.

I'm drawn to a forum by core content but what keeps me interested is the stuff on the periphary. It's got rather sanitised and sterile on here recently and I spend less and less time logged on. I'm rapidly approaching the point where I'll be thinking 'why bother?'

Sad - but other forums are available.

I think you have summarised perfectly what I was trying to say in my thread starter.

I think with English not being my first language though I sometimes find it difficult to convey correctly the thoughts in my head into the written word.

Thank you

I won't be leaving anytime soon, can't be bothered to join others! On here, as someone esle said, you can ask about holidays, Hifi, Tomatoes and relationship issues, and you get a very broad and considered bunch of answers. I have joined very specific forums in the past but they are almost too specific if you get what I mean. So on a car audio forum you get loads of experts saying "no you shouldn't do it like that, and you should use gold cables" and other "experts" who say "nah they are sh*t, my cousin's uncle reckons anything other than Alpine is rubbish".

I joined for the cycling but stayed for the general chat

Can't speak to the moderation issue - I've only been modded once, and if I remember rightly I was asking for it. FWIW, I always thought the move to this:

View attachment 635688

was a big mistake, and has significantly degraded the value of the site. Frankly, everything below NACA should be in the cafe.

It really pisses me off when I post to the cafe about my tomato seedlings or my leaky car, and soon find that my message has been shifted to Motoring or Hobbies & Interests, which all but guarantees that it'll never be seen again, or responded to, so what's the point?

I guess the original idea (and it's doubtless in some 'How to Start Your Own Website & Become a Millionaire' guide) was to try to establish sub-forums and build them to the point where they can be floated off and become self-supporting/cash-generating. Well, if that was the idea, it's not working. Look at the thread/post numbers. All it's doing is leaching energy away from the Cafe, which needs it, to some out-of-town ghetto where it will die unseen. From the user's perspective, if I, say, want to ask CC members if anyone's been to Albania and has any thoughts, I want to ask everyone - not the handful who, for whatever reason, have decided to visit 'Travel & Holidays' today.

It's not my site, it's not my say, but if I were Shaun I'd accept that, eg, 'Travel & Holidays' is never going to be able to establish itself as a serious travel site. Better to abandon the effort as an idea that may have been worth trying, but has palpably not succeeded, and concentrate CC energies where they can achieve best effect. Put tomatoes, dogs and Albania back in the cafe: that, surely, is what it's there for.

Oh, and from the little I have seen & heard, the moderation needs a review too. It has now, so I hear, erased probably the liveliest thread of recent times. If you wanted to kill a site by degrees, that sort of behaviour is surely the way to go about it.
Absolutely all this. The main reason I don’t post. No politics and way too many sub-fora. This place is too complicated, and has become dull. Way over-moderated.

I would tend to agree with you. As an example, there was a really vibrant and entertaining, long-running "Beer" thread in the Cafe. It got shunted into the "Food & Drink" subforum and it's died a death as that subforum's traffic is nothing like what the Cafe's was before it was split up

I was always willing to give the idea of multiple subforums a proper go; the tendency is to automatically assume it's worse because it's different. But in this case, having got used to it, it is worse

same here , but the general chat , cafe etc is not what it once was due to the number of sub forums is silly , if you look down the list , cafe is listed as

CC Cafe - General Chat

but too many threads get removed and put into subforums where it hardly ever recieves enough views and is left to die out

my sort?? harmless thread already degrading into name calling.....and we wonder why threads get closed
I think you've misunderstood me: I was joking that certain parts of the site (in this case, the Actual Rules!) would only be visible to The Right Sort. I thought this was a ludicrous suggestion i.e. a joke that would be clear to all.

Perhaps I misjudged - no offence was intended.

I am amazed that people go into each sub-forum in turn to see what is happening. I just browse through New posts then Mark forums read. I don't care where the threads actually reside.

But... anybody who particularly wants to limit themselves to a sub-forum or two can do that instead if they prefer to.

I can't see the problem.

Ditto:

I just look at the New Posts dropdown and if anything catches my eye I take a look and if it is of interest I add it to my watched thread list.

If I post in said thread it's automatically added to Watched Threads by my site preferences/options.

Sorted!

FWIW, nobody on the politics forum is being persecuted for having right wing opinions.
I believe the they left , the moderates are still there though. So there is no longer the deep and extended debates. More an affirmation of what has been posted. The recent highlight is Louis Theroux, the nicer version of Jeremy Kyle. The type of topic that is seldom addressed in NACA of old.
