..a long way from somewhere called Home..
bought a tin of Dry Lube with Telflon

ok cleaned chain till rags quite clean - not de-greased just wiped
no instructions with Dry-Lube - so added 1 large drop across each roller
then slowly run gears up/down for 2mins

considering this is my ''best bike'' = ie. dry weather only and no Muc-Off type cleaning

how often do you re-apply the Dry-Lube..?

thanks.....john

White lightning/squirt type lubes I'm lucky to get 50 miles without it getting noisy. Fenwicks stealth may get 70-80 before it gets noisy. I love the cleanliness of drys but the wet I use in winter is mucky but silent for miles and miles.

If I'm on a tour I have to lube mid ride, the noise drives me crazy. I usually do it when I stop for food or a brew, gives it time to dry. How people reckon they get 200-400 miles on a single dry lube amazes me. As well as noise the shifting isn't as smooth when the lube has flaked off.

Gave up dry lube as I wouldn't think I got more than 50 miles before the noise got to me. Wet lube and wipe it as per the excellent advice on here.

I use dry lube weekly, and sometimes in wet Winter weeks more than once per week. Sometimes after the bike gets rained on, the squeaking is enough for even my sub-standard hearing to notice, and I can't stand a noisy bike: bikes should be as silent as possible.

When it starts to feel gritty under power which works out to be 75-100 miles or after a single wet ride with finish line ceramic wax. Wet lube usually lasts twice that but means much messier drive train that needs more cleaning. I must be doing something right as when ever chain life is talked about I'm always at the top end of the scale with 10/11sp chain with chains replaced at 0.75% stretch.

I have been using finish line and follow the Mickle method which is great. Also give the chain a quick wipe with a wet wipe in between mickling. You will find many users of the forum use this technique.
